My wife and I are not keen gardeners, unlike some of our very good friends. However, we do quite like to visit gardens when on holiday. My wife had flagged this up as somewhere we could visit and there were further details in the Hotel where we were staying in Sarlat. We went on a glorious day and were bowled... More

I felt unwelcome in these gardens. There are many places where visitors are forbidden to enter or to walk- even the kitchen garden is out of bounds. The White Garden is beautiful and in places they've done interesting things with perspective by sheering bushes to different sizes, but there's little feeling of warmth or life in the garden.

The gardens are very formal and not the place to take young children (no walking on the grass etc.). A lot of work has obviously been carried out - and was still being when we went. The formal topiary hedges were impressive and the (relatively) newly planted gardens will I'm sure be lovely as they mature. However I thought it... More

We live in the area and decided to visit the gardens ourselves as we have a b&b and try to get first hand experience of the tourist attractions. The gardens are very nice indeed and well worth a visit, but the cafe/restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. Very high prices for VERY small portions, 9 euros for three slices... More

Dear Sir, First of all, thank you for sharing your experience, we truly appreciate the feedback. We’re surprised (sorry) to hear about your feeling concerning the restaurant as it is the first time that a visitor makes this kind of remark. The menu provides a wide range of meals from mixed salads to more elaborated meals and affordable for all.... More

If you are into topiary gardening, this is definitely one garden you need to see. It is less than 30 minutes from Sarlat by car. Our GPS was very good at finding it, although it is listed in our database as an attraction, not a town. Since I never saw a town, I guess that is correct. We were there... More

These gardens are beautiful and very tranquil, I thought the nursery plots were very good showing how topiary starts. and in parts very like Sissinghurst. Wow!!!

A very interesting garden to visit with a long history. Not the sort of place created by weekend gardening with 5 full time gardeners clipping and weeding non stop. Lots of interesting vistas and examples of how formal gardens used to look. A welcome tearoom as well - much needed after a visit. It is quite expensive - 24 euros... More

Visited the gardens as a family (sons ages 8 & 11). We though the admission price of 34 euros was a little hefty. The gardens are certainly beautiful but so much of it is inaccessible, for example the French garden that was the best example of the magnificent topiary was out of bounds - you could look at it from... These wonderful gardens are a personal triumph for the Sermadiras family, who maintain them with great care and attention. Even though they date from since 1945, you would think they had been there for centuries. The gardens take the form of a series of external rooms, rather like Sissinghurst, and their muted green and white theme gives them an almost... More

We took our boys aged 7 & 5 to these gardens one afternoon. We all enjoyed exploring the different sections following the trail guide we were handed at the ticket office. The topiary was amazing and, despite the popularity of the gardens, we were able to find quiet corners to enjoy to ourselves. The boys particularly liked the White Garden,... More
