The mountainous, rugged scenery is the back drop for Tiger Leaping Gorge and the power of the rushing rapids pounding the rocks the tiger is to have jumped, according to local folklore, to make its way over the water and away from the hounding villagers. Walking through the tunnels and along the trail mapped out for tourists is an amazing... More

As I have two yong children, we only visited the tourist section of the top part of Tiger Leaping Gorge as the rest is too challenging yet. It was worth the trek to get there to see the fantastic scenery and walk through the tunnels blasted out of the rock to where the Tiger is supposed to have crossed the... More

I lived in a city where the highest peak is 300 m. So the idea of a trek while novel, grew as the hike progress. It started out in a small village by the river. The initial trail is shared by local villagers with their mini-vans & lorries. As you walked away from the village, the view changes, a dirt... More

I really loved the scenery of this view. So exciting and fun to hike down and up. I love hearing the sounds of the river and beautiful mountain formations. I want to go back there for my next visit. I was with my bf, we're so happy and fullfiled.

Awesome hike! We did it in three days. First to Naxi guesthouse, then to Tea Horse! Views were outstanding! You must visit the water full (between Halfway guesthouse and Tina's guesthouse. Watch the walking, can be dangerous

This hike really is not as hard as all the guidebooks make out... Even the toughest bit of the 28 bends is not particularly difficult of you take your time... The scenery is spectacular and there are some really nice places to stop along the route. We trekked 1.5 hours to Naxi family guesthouse (which is lovely) in the afternoon... More

I was a bit apprehensive about this walk as many people said it was very difficult. It is not. On the first day we got the bus from Lijiang to Qiatou which our hostel arranged for us (35RMB). We arrived at 10.30am and set off for the first section which was quite flat before lunch at Naxi Guesthouse. The menu... More

Having spent a couple of nights in the tourist hotspot of LiJiang, I was pretty sure that Tiger Leaping Gorge would be nothing more than a Disney'fied chinese excursion. However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was possible to get off the beaten track and to explore the valley in relative Chinese peace and quiet! I really like... More

This is the best hike I've ever done and I've done a fair few in Korea, china and England. I don't know why people on here are saying its not that great. It has a set route for everyone to take but you don't see many people around and it often feels off the beaten path (not the usual relentless... More

We absolutely loved this gorge. The lighting was great for photos and we took some great long exposure shots that captured the waters tumultuously whipping in opposing directions as they smashed through the rocks fo the gorge. Though we haven't been to any other major gorges so we can't compare it to others - if you have than as other... More
