Covering 28,000 acres, and receiving more than 200 inches of rain per year, El Yunque National Forest is the only tropical rain forest in the US Forest System. Noted for its biodiversity, the forest is home to more than 400 different plant species. It has more than a dozen maintained trails for hiking, picnic pavilions, stone towers, rivers, waterfalls, and an interpretive visitors' center.

Balneario Monserrate, often referred to simply as Luquillo Beach, is a long cresent of fine sand, with plenty of mature palm trees for shade, and El Yunque National Forest in the background. Due to a fringing reef, there are no waves to speak of, so it's a perfect beach for young kids. The beach has some food kiosks, restrooms, changing rooms, showers, and lifeguards. There is a small fee to park in the gated parking area.

"This was my first visit to a rainforest. Large snails, small birds, and no animals. The plant life was incredible and the fog made it look very mysterious.
My only compliant is why did I have to pay 4 dollars to go to the information center? It didn't see there was anything there to pay for."
"Great experience! Bring a poncho it just may rain in the rain Forrest. If you want to zip line it's actually called the canopy tour so make sure you book that one instead."
"We signed up with Elegant Steering while we visited Puerto Rico and loved our tour guide, Michelle. Not only did she explained everything about the rain forest but she took the time to point out other important businesses and educated most of us about the history of Puerto Rico. We loved her bubbl..."y personality and the extra time she gave us to fully enjoy the amazing waterfall. Thanks Michelle for making our adventure a memorable one!
We also wanted to recognize Carlos for our second excursion - bioluminent kayak tour. We enjoyed our bus ride to our destination and enjoyed his knowledge about the island as well. Two awesome employees that we can tell love their jobs!!
