"Wanting to cheer ouyrselves up on a cold overcast 'summers' day in June we went through our National Trust book and saw Hughenden Manor the house of Benjamin Disraeli the Victorian Prime Minister. Easy to get to and well sign posted from High Wycombe we started with lunch in the 'stable' cafe, two s..."andwiches a bottle of local ale and a latte coffee £12.50. Really fresh food was being produced with hot meals at £7.50 I saw later that the rear door of the kitchen led straight out onto the kitchen garden, no wonder the salads were fresh! Like Sir Bernard Shaw, Disraeli wanted a country retreat to get away from the great Metropolis and moved to Hughenden Manor when he was 44 in1848. He and his wife Mary Anne loved this quiet part of the Chilterns away from the rigours of Parliamentary life in London. They took their role as Squire and Lady very seriously. "Been here with a friend and my boyfriend and we had a lovely time. I'm proud to be a National Trust member of 2013. The interior was lovely. The dining hall was dark but the bedroom the prime minister and his wife slept in, was bright. The volunteers gave us interesting information. We asked a lot o..."f questions because we were fascinated. The grounds were neat and tidy and one very kind volunteer gave us free seeds for us to grow our vegetables! i love garden veg and shall plant these next year.It may be hilly but we had a lovely time. The food we had tasted wonderful. We had pasta bake with salad. The gift shop sold a great range of things. Thanks again National Trust! There was a fee for the attraction but because we were members, we got in for free.

"It was a nice little afternoon out, bring ur walking shoes and maybe a torch as a couple parts of the Caves are not as well lit especially when there is a group of u blocking the light in the confined space. Lovely little tea room and benches outside if its a nice day. Not a lot of parking spaces so..." u may have to park in the village car park and walk up.
