This marvellous theatre has only 99 seats shared between its boxes and stalls. It was finished in 1808, under the Napoleonic occupation, and was initiated by nine local families. In the second half of the 19th century it was decorated by Cesare Agretti and in 1892 by his son Luigi, only 14 at the time, who painted the ceiling and the vaults, the boxes and the meeting room. After its construction, Monte Castello di Vibio became a capital of a large territory and enjoyed a particularly vibrant period thanks to the ideals of brotherhood and equality introduced by the new French administration. The original building has been restored several times. The latest works, after a period of neglect during the 50’s and 60’s, were finished at the beginning of the 90’s. The interior of the theatre, considered “the smallest in the world”, is made entirely out of wood in the “Goldoniano” style and represents a rare example of its kind, offering a harmonious and well thought out use of space for scenery, for the actors and the audience. Plenty of shows take the place each year: prose, opera, classical and jazz concerts. The theatre is also available for meetings and civil weddings, and can be visited on Saturdays and Sundays, between 25th December and 6th January, and in July and August everyday

"Monti Sibillini (refer to individual village reviews for photos)
Like many others we did a long day trip around the villages that make up Monte Sibillini - about 8 hours in total in early June of 2012. The roads from the east coast were easy to drive & even though we had sat nav the sigh posting wa..."s easy to follow. Our village sequence was Amandola, Montemonaco, Norcia, Castelluccio & Servigliano.
As part of our trip around the Monti Sibillini National park our first stop was Amandola. Its a smaller town on the outskirts of the National park. Well worth the walk around to see the difference in building structures & the start of the climate change for the day as you climb higher. The road is twisty in parts but views are spectacular.
Our next stop was the sleepy old town of Montemonaco. As we approached the old town, the views were once again spectacular with the older generation all sitting by a bar drinking espresso. As we wandered through the village it looked very deserted wit...

"what seemed like hundreds of hang gliders on a hill - waiting for wind
and quietly some summer ruffles hunters passed with their walking sticks and dog
a very good afternoon in the summer of '99"
"Famous for their lentils, this little town is a beautiful gem at the end of a beautiful and stunning drive along a small road flanked by beautiful fields of flowers. This place can get a little cramped during the lentil celebration, but still worth the time to visit. It had, if I remember, some ea..."rthquake damage but the few churches and old antique buildings are wonderful. Enjoy.
