Inaugurated on July 1, 2011, the Centre, designed by the renowned architect, Manuel Aires Mateus, assumed, from the outset, an important role to showcase the actions of ecological recovery undertaken to recuperate the water quality and the ecosystem of the Furnas Lake. The CMIF has a reception area where the visitor is provided with information about the project, as well as a multimedia / interactive exhibition that leads the visitors to "voyage" through the natural heritage of the Furnas valley and the lake, acquainting its geology and volcanism, the lake ecosystem and limnology and native flora and fauna. In addition, Centre is also constituted of an area of research and monitoring and the adjacent outdoor area includes a picnic zone, sanitary facilities, car park and ample green space with a captivating view of the Furnas Lake. « less
