North Sailing is proud to be pioneers in whale watching in Iceland. We run and operate four traditional Icelandic oak boats, as well as two schooners, all of them environmentally friendly. Our customers can choose between our Original 3-hour- whale watching tour, which runs several times a day from April till October, or our schooner tours, which focus on whales plus puffins plus the sailing experience. Skjálfandi Bay, adjacent to our hometown Húsavík, is known for its excellent whale sightings. We regularly see humpback whales and minke whales and the chances to see the white-beaked dolphin and the harbour porpoise are fairly high in the bay as well. Our success rate in the year 2011 was 98,3 %, but of course we are operating in wild nature and can only hope that the whales and dolphins continue to visit the bay. Protecting our environment and acting ecologically responsible is therefore a key element of our operations. Good to know: We provide warm overalls for all customers, free parking and wheelchair access to our boats. Our highly motivated staff is well trained and our customers’ well being and safety is our highest priority when taking you out to encounter the marine wildlife first hand.

"We was on Whales and puffins trip with North Sailing. This sail takes approx. 4 hours ... after an hour of sailing we reached puffin island, we saw a lot of puffins there but no whales, we sail another one hore and nothing :D ... i was kind scared if we wont be remaining 2% unsuccessful sails with ..."no whales, but NOT ! after a 2 - 2:30 hourse we saw about 3 minke whales, few times they was really close to boat - can be 5 meter ... it was great experience ! but i am little bit sad i didnt saw blue whale, but maybe next time. Crew was also good and funny :D they told to us that if we forget cameras and stuffs in sailing overalls, they will sell it on ebay :P ... cinnamon rolls and chocolate was also good snack and who wants, can get also rum to chocolate from the captain :)

"We heard about this small village a little steps aside of the ring street where Whale Watching is offered and nearly guaranteed that you see actually whales.
So we took the chance a drove this bumpy road to Husavik, which was indeed even more charming than Akureyri.
The tour with this tiny boat a..."nd nice men who took us to the cove where the whales usually are.
And it was an amazing experience. We saw dolphins, humpback whales and really had a lot of fun.
It was snowing when we came back to Husavik but it was indeed a very nice trip.

"The guide and captain were professional and friendly. We saw two Humpback Whales, quite close, and observed them as long as we could. The cost was reasonable, less than we paid for a similar tour in Alaska."
