At Borg in Lofoten, you may experience the Viking Age in a living museum. Visit a full scale (83 meters long) reconstruction of the Viking Chieftain´s longhouse at Borg in Lofoten. The longhouse is reconstructed close to the original site. The architecture, the arts and crafts work, the handicraft demonstration, a richly decorated Gildehall (feasting hall) and the Norse mythology exhibition give you an insight into the Viking life. Archeological artifacts, films about the sensational finds on Borg, along with a 12 minutes long film can be explored in the exhibition halls nearby. At the seaside, the viking ship, the forge and the activity area is located. 15th of June - 15th of August we arrange extra activites such as rowing the viking ship, visiting the blacksmith, trying your hand at viking games. The activities are included in the entrance ticket. Every year in August, we arrange a 5 day viking festival. Market, theatre, concerts, handicraft demonstrations, fight shows and much more. The museum is open all year (winter 2 days pr week). For more information: lofotr.no

The Knut Hamsun Centre is located by the vicarage ruins on the banks of the Glimma River in Presteid in Hamarøy Municipality in Northern Norway. The centre is situated in a beautiful cultural landscape surrounded by nature that remains virtually as untouched as it was in Hamsun’s time. The centre’s tower offers an impressive view over the realm of Hamsun, the area that inspired the author to write world renowned books like Pan, Growth of the Soil and Wayfarers.

"Me travelled there on an organised trip off Hurtigruten ship MS Nordlys in early May. the weather at this time of year is very changeable but we got a lovely sunny day although it was pretty windy. The bus met us off the ship and we got a very entertaining guide who gave us lots of snippets of infor..."mation about the area. There was a less than authentic side-trip to a Sami road-side stall which sold Chinese-Norwegian souvenirs and allowed photos of a less than enthusiastic reindeer and then on we went to the North Cape visitor centre. The centre itself was mostly closed because of the time of year but had good facilities, a good shop and a small exhibition and short cinema/film downstairs. All reasonable stuff. But its the globe that everyone comes to see and be photo'd next to and it is pretty stunning although disappointingly it is just a globe mounted on a large stone plinth - nothing to say for example 'you are at the most northerly point of Europe 71 deg 21 min etc etc' that would'...

"February 2013 - WINTER
The bus collected us at our ship and we travelled to North Cape in a bus convoy, over icy roads where visibility was low at times. On the previous day, the bus convoy had to turn back due to gale force winds, which can blow buses off the road, so we were not even sure our bu..."s would make it to the Cape. A fierce wind was blowing as we arrived and made our way along the road from the bus to the sphere - where it's essential to have your photo taken, just to prove you actually made it to this desolate frozen place. At one point, the wind was so strong that it blew me several paces along the road, but thankfully there was a fence rail for me to grab onto. I then pulled myself back to the visitor centre, hand over hand, along the fence. The centre offers a variety of things. A small theatre shows interesting movies about North Cape itself. A large souvenir shop offers almost anything you could imagine in the way of mementos to buy, and there is also food avail...

"We visited as part of a package tour. The place is interesting. There's a film to watch, souvenirs shop and even if the weather is not very clear, the whole experience of being so up north is worth the effort. In addition, the scenery of the drive up there is spectacular."
