- Christopher MSydney, Australia74 contributionsCatching up with people was the reason for the visit but we were pleasantly surprised by the area around and Bennella itself.Written 12 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Skeney57Sydney, Australia21,999 contributionsHad another quick look on our way home and it is a fascinating site. Lots of foot trails, info boards, sculpture works, education centre and a kiosk, all await the visitor. We had the place to ourselves early morning and only had a lot of Roos for company. Great to see that common sense prevailed and that the area was returned to its natural condition, as much as possible! Combine the Silo Trail with the wetlands and you can have a great couple of days exploring the area.Written 26 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TravellerMelbourne, Australia15,759 contributionsMy wife and I visited this place during our drive home from Bright to Melbourne. It is a very pleasant place to stop for a walk and enjoy the scenery.
The statue of Sir Edward Weary Dunlop is a fitting tribute. The Rose Garden was well maintained. The walking tracks are nice.Written 13 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is a collection of fine art in this Gallery that were donated by Laurie Ledger, who was born in Benalla and operated a family business.
My wife and I enjoyed viewing some of the fine art on display.
As at 20 September 2023, the main photo shown on this Tripadvisor website for Benalla Art Gallery, has nothing to do with the Gallery. It is merely a photo of the riverside walk in Benalla. I hope Tripadvisor will delete that photo as it is totally irrelevant to this Gallery.Written 19 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Sadly, the door was closed with Mass not on for another hour or so, but the building itself demands attention! Dating back to 1908 and built in the Romanesque style it is a truly stunning building and a tribute to the congregation who built it and support it to this day. The Church suffered a terrible fire in 1989 but luckily (or miraculously?) survived with most intact and would of loved to see the interior, maybe next time when at Winton?Written 24 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - C...Victoria, Australia65,001 contributionsThe Visitor Centre has just had a refurbishment. It is incredibly well lit, with stunning views of Benalla Lake. The centre also has stunning local artwork on display.
There is a gift store selling a selection of local products. Information brochures are on hand, or their incredible staff will recommend something to suit your needs. I left with a few brochures that were tailored to my interests.
I visited recently on a weekend and the lady was really helpful.Written 16 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Interesting history about Ned Kelly and his family also. Jenny, at the Information Centre, was very helpful. Thank you.Written 13 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

It was an absolute honour to be able to walk through the site, look at the items on display, have delicious homemade cake and hear Elders tell us about what growing up on the camp was like.
It is such a welcoming community driven museum which feels so much more welcoming than most museums we’ve visited.
This site is a beautiful testimony to living and ongoing histories. A visit to Benalla is incomplete without a visit to this camp.
Thank you to Sabine and community members for taking the time to share with us.

It was bliss to be able to just see where the action happens, but with only whispers of events in the environment.
The first race meeting took place here on 26 November 1961.The circuit was immediately popular - a March 1965 meeting featuring the Neptune touring car and the Victorian Formula Two championship drew a crowd of approximately 10,000 spectators... NOW that is impressive. Benalla isn't exactly capable of holding that many guests, so I can only imagine how that occurred... Clearly some people could have driven here for the day, but that would have meant the town's motels and caravan parks would have been at capacity.
I am sure a car racing enthusiast would find this more interesting. I found it interesting because you can see the low hills behind it and I know that if this track was in action that the noise and buzz would be something to behold. On a personal level though, I preferred to see this for the first time with just the echos of past events.Written 27 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The sculpture stands in the Benalla Botanic Gardens, "Weary" Dunlop's home town. He was brought up on a wheat farm, where he was known as "Ern". Some of his relatives believed that he should have been a farmer, not a doctor. "Weary" was not lacking in ambition, but for all his accolades, he remained a humble man.Written 17 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
