"We had checked to make sure Independence Pass was open in late May given the recent snow; it was. The road, which contracts to a single lane in some places, was dry and clear until the very top, where we hit blowing snow, snow-covered roads, and fierce winds. We were above 12,000 feet, so that was..." expected. We could see the dry pavement hundreds of yards ahead and plowed on. It was a little unnerving, and it would be great to cross the Pass on a clear day when you can see forever. It's a must do if you are in the Aspen area.

"Beautiful, breath-taking! Easy hike to Crater Lake, but you don't have to go very far to get "The" famous picture. A must-do! Go early to avoid people."
"Quick little hike, great for those coming from sea-level. If you're used to hiking to the top of 14ers, you'll want to keep going. If you go past the lake a little, you can get to some waterfalls for some fun pictures. Was nice to pack a snack and take a nap by the lake and just enjoy the view (v..."iews of the Bells are best from below, but this was still nice). Took us about 3 hours because of all of the photo taking. Probably could do it in 1.5 hours.
