Morocco is one of Africa's most geographically, culturally, and socially diverse areas. Morocco possesses some of the highest mountains laced with fertile plateaus and plains giving way to the Atlantic Ocean. Morocco is also home to the rare red cedar forests of the Middle Atlas Mountains and Argan trees in the Anti Atlas, which are unique to Morocco. The mélange of cultures, including African, Berber, Jewish, Islamic, and European, is added to the influences of the early Egyptians, Phoenicians, Carthaginians, and Romans, making the history and culture of Morocco undeniably fascinating and remarkably exceptional.

"You can wander fascinated for days. Buy a map for 20p in any small shop. Often the stallholders will guide you to where you want to go, but don't hesitate to give a small boy 50p to guide out if you are lost. I would say the history & interesting features are hard to spot & I def think it worth payi..."ng for a guide for half a day at least. Ask your hotel & say you dont want to spend the time in shops. You can do that on your own! Do visit the Tanneries; however many pictures you have seen, the reality is awe inspiring. You have to go thro a leather shop to view them, but you dont have to buy anything ! (see my general review for a recommendation). It is more of a local shopping/living area than a tourist trap, altho there are of course some touristy shops. People are very friendly, perhaps because there aren't huge swarms of tourists. If you are feeling adventuous, wander off the beaten track of the two main routes thro the Medina. If you are getting tired or want lunch, you can get a pe...

"Not so easy to find & it closes at 5pm but make a point of going here. Fascinating collection of wood crafts & tools, but it starts with examples of the different trees they use & maps of where they grow in Morocco. Wonderful examples of traditional wooden panels, doors, decorative pieces, oil press..."es, etc. The 3 storey house is a wonder in itself. Sadly all the explanations are in French, but I put a note in the suggestions book, so maybe they will add English ! There is a lovely roof terrace where you can but a cheap drink ( no food) & have a rest. Only 30p to get into the Museum & 10p for a mint tea or cold drink.

"Get yourself lost and enjoy the experience walking through the bazaar, donkeys passing by, visit the tannery and stop by for a traditional morroccon tagine or couscous!"
