Getting there remains difficult on your own. Ferries run without a very strict schedule from Semarang and J..."epara and normally you need to get tickets a couple months ahead. Speed boats from Semarang (3.5 hours)are sporadic, more frequent from Jepara (2.5 hours) where there is also a slow ferry (6-7 hours). You can get from Semarang to Jepara in a taxi in 2 hours for 260,000 Rp. There are only 3 island with accomodation: Karimunjawa, Menjangan Kecil and the Kura-Kura resort island. Only 2 of them have white sand: karimunjawa and Menjangan Kecil. The kura-kura island is very far and they take you in a powerboat, while Menjangan kecil is only 20 minutes to the main island by long boat.
