"This place was the main reason we came to Xi'an. We have seen this so many times in pictures that it is an unworldly experience to be here in person. If you can shut out the crowds for a moment and just contemplate the immensity of the project that created this monument, it's overwhelming.

As one reviewer said, reading up a bit beforehand would make the visit more interesting.
Be prepared for crowds. Our guide told us...

"We spent most of the day visiting the different areas of this archeological site. As fascinating as the actual warrior statues themselves is the work that the archeologists are continuing as they reassemble the statues."
"No photo can prepare you of the enormous scale of this place. In the completed hall, every figure has been restored soldiers, horses and wagons. The hall looks like to be 50 meters long and
Some 40 meters wide. The guide told me that when the warriors were first discovered, they were all coloured,..." but the colour disappeared as soon as they were exposed to the air. Apparently 50 archeologists are working every night to excavate the figures in the third hall, but leave the last ground in the hope that they can discover how to preserve the colour. No visit to China can be complete without visiting this.
