Weather cooperating, the stunning combination of insane rock formations and beautiful monasteries makes this like no other place on Earth!Written 14 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This has been on my bucket list for years, and definitely did not disappoint.

Get there before the excursion buses arrive to avoid the crown or after 2:00 p.m. We got there at 10:00 am and there were many people. We left at 1:30 pm and at that time, there was more parking space.Written 16 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Marialena A2 contributionsVery interesting exhibits and a very spot-on and illuminating tour. The museum's guide was very good and helpful.
Would definitely recommend it. At the end of the tour, you can visit the shop and choose from a wide variety of products from mushrooms to drink or eat to merch.Written 17 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's one of the most remarkable landscapes in the world. On that count alone it's well worth a visit.Written 20 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- cnanrwCarlsbad, NM896 contributionsAmong the many monasteries in the area, this monastery was included in our tour. While I’m not a religious man, the place was awe inspiring. Interesting how throughout its history of centuries, how it was built and maintained before roads were built.
Somehow I injured my forearm (not seriously) and one of the nuns saw the blood and the look on her face was of terror. Another nun brought a paper towel to blot the wound while a third nun sprayed the wound with hydrogen peroxide and betadine then covered with a dressing. I asked to leave a donation but she said, “no, no, no. Goodbye’ rather quickly.
The scenery was beautiful, looking out over Kalabaka. Time well spent.Written 9 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. How the monks managed to build these are incredible feats of engineering.
Definitely spend a day here. It won’t soon be forgotten.Written 19 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - thomasdefise93Arlon, Belgium100 contributionsAs we were visiting Meteora monasteries on a Wednesday we did :
1) Varlaam
2) Great Meteoron
3) Rousanos
Rousanos is one not of the « main » monastery at Meteora next to Varlaam, Holy Trinity and Great Meteoron.
This means that it’s usually less crowded however.
There are two accesses via stairs, one (through the bottom) has some stairs and the other way (through the top) less.
The Rousanos is quite small but has his charm, we like the small museum inside with some interesting pieces and can be nice as third (and eventually final) visit of monasteries
I personally loved the draw of Meteora thereWritten 15 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Nazim SBesancon, France14 contributionsThis Museum is UNFORTUNATELY going to CLOSE down although the material it contains is only one tenth of the what is left in storage. It is one of the most enlightening visits to a museum which contains all the artefacts and original manuscripts of many Greek and French writers. The whole education systme in Greece can be seen through the prism of a visit. The most amazing manuscripts and writings of Aesop's fables were the crown jewel. Our gratitude to Katherina our guide who is passionate about the place and was able to convey all the knowledge to those interested. It was quite an experience to learn the interaction between the French Enlgihtment and its influence on the Greeks. Moreover, the Greeks were inspired by the French moneatry system and they used it. Hence we learn that one franc was equivalent to one drachma. The almost tow hours spent in this museum was worth every minute. It is devasting to learn that this museum is closed due to some property builders. All the material collected, and a lot has never been visible, and donated by a PATRON whose generosity and legacy will be lost.Written 10 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - celia s12 contributionsTotally alone, friendly lady, breathtaking church, little pearl in the village you can reach easily from the square but also by the path down from the meteora. We were 3, my sons of 11 and 13, we tried to understand the " cartons" from the past. They liked it but we are a museum visiting family but I think it is also for children fascinating if you stay not too long and look together.Written 29 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Matthew PLondon, UK4,279 contributionsA beautiful ancient church a must visit if you find your self in Kalambaka. Old wall painting and a massive pulpit inside, you can see what has changed over its history.Written 20 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
