"We have been to Point Reyes National Seashore many times for hikes, shop browsing, and picnics. This time we decided to hike among the oyster beds in the estuary.
It is always good to stop first at the Bear Valley Visitor Center, off Sir Francis Drake Blvd., to pick up a trail map and speak with..." the expert rangers about trails and conditions: http://www.nps.gov/pore/planyourvisit/hi king.htm
We then drove to the Estero parking area to start our 5-mile trek. Thankfully, there were clean outhouses at the parking lot. People should bring plenty of water, food, sunscreen, and a jacket in case it's windy or cold. Bringing a camera is also a good idea since there is interesting flora and fauna along the trail.
We walked thru a heavily forested area, with dappled light. Then to a lovely bridge connecting two parts of the estuary, which was where we took our picnic lunch. We took pictures of the flocks of birds (coots) eating at he water's edge and flying in groups over our heads. ...

"Must go to Drake's Bay Oyster Company. Has the most delicious oysters and a place to shuck, bbq and eat oyster after you buy. They have oyster sizes. Some up to two years old-best for bbq. They also have jars of daily fresh shucked oysters. It is an out of the way area where locals have been go..."ing for many years to feast on only one thing. Oysters! Getting there is a beautiful car ride through hills, horse, cows, chickens, and birds of many kinds. You can take your oysters and also go to the beaches nearby where sealife abounds and scenery is breathtaking. Support our local economy and go!

"4 miles of varied (and lovely) scenery, ending with a fabulous view. Just be prepared to deal with the cows that occasionally block the path. And the very end is overgrown with poison oak on both sides -- but you get the same view if you skip that last tenth of a mile!"
