"We went to Duckhorn based on a recommendation from a friend. We did not know what to expect however have been to many wineries in Napa Valley. The experience at Duckhorn is a step above any other winery that doesn't require you to make a reservation. You enter the building and start off buy payin..."g for your tasting. Be prepared to shell out about twice as much for this tasting as compared to other Napa wineries. They immediately give you a glass of their first wine and take you to an open table. From there you get a personalized tasting of the rest of their wines (which by the way are excellent) while taking in the sights. Their grounds are in great shape and you can tell their building has a lot of money put into it. Highly recommend!

"When driving up to the property you feel like you are entering a plebeian marketing-hype environment. The parking lot is teaming with people and the steel structure is a very tastefully architected facility. The place is abuzz with activity around the tasting bar...and you are surrounded by the ener..."gy of youth!
Definitely not what you would expect for the traditional private "wine" tasting experience.....but then.....you are ushered into a private room and John Palmer launches into his informative, energetic description of the wines accompanied by an array of biscuits, cranberries, almonds, prosciutto and more. John's dissertation was very well done. It was a treat to witness the look of wonderment and hear the expressions of high regard from our friend and sommelier who has done wine radio shows and videos (Grapes to Glass). His quote "these cabernets defy aging and are drinkable now"! (2009 and 2010 blends).
Reds to whites were delectable. One of the best Chardonnays that I've...

"This place was the first winery in Napa Valley. The tour was great. We took the walking tour with an extremely knowledgeable guide. The tastings along the tour were great. We even had a tasting while we waiting for the tour to begin. You walked along the outside for about 15 minutes, they showed you..." the vines, the grapes (if you're in the right season), explained the process, then took you into the caves. Great tour.
