- mynameisDPortland, OR977 contributionsStopped here to enjoy a little more history while we were traveling through Idaho and Montana there are several historical markers of Lewis and Clark along the way. Some with beautiful mountain peaks and scenery.
This was a small visitor center but the lady working that day was delightful and full of information. She even allowed are small dog to come inside.
Very educational.
There are lovely grounds to walk and one takes you near the river. Statues near by as well.

- Thomas D5 contributionsIgnore any negative review about this hot spring as it is an amazing spring that can be just perfect if you go at the right time. Avoid weekends at any timeframe as the crowds will make it difficult to find space to soak. We arrived at 6:30 am and there were already 8 cars at the trail head. If you go on the weekday and during the early am and later on when the sun sets, you will get a majestic soak with unrivaled views. The hike is a little steep at the beginning and the end of the trail but even a timid hiker can tackle the minor challenges. We spent 3 hours soaking in the main pools under the bridge and watched a gorgeous sunset.Written 25 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Terry T2 contributionsWorth a visit. Lots of Native artwork and photos plus local donations of everyday items used from the 1800s, gives you a good look at how Salmon was way back when.Written 13 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chris HCumbria, UK193 contributionsCame up the Lemhi pass and had this point all to myself on a perfect sunny day. A dip in the nearby springs completed the day.Written 17 September 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alison PForest, VA148 contributionsThis is a 36-mile loop out of Tendoy, Idaho. The are 3 segments to the route. First, you'll start at the Tendoy post office on Hwy 28. Travel down Tendoy Ln to state road 28 (aka Lemhi back road). Follow that for about 2.8 miles and turn right onto Warm Springs Road (185). 185 is the 2nd segment. After about 1/2 mile, you'll see the Backcountry Byway Kiosk. For some reason, it was locked when we went but if it's open, there are history/informational panels. After another 1/2 mile, you'll see a road that takes off to the right (NF-185). Keep left to stay on the byway. Less than a mile later, you'll see Sharkey Hot Springs. (We stopped in and enjoyed a soak after we explored the rest of the byway). Enjoy the scenery (and stop to take pictures) for another 3.5 miles and then you'll come to the Flag Unfurling Monument. Another 1.5 miles and you'll see the Pattee Creek Overlook. After another 1/2 mile, you'll enter the Salmon-Challis National Forest. Enjoy this beautiful section of the route. Shortly after you see 184 take off to the left, 185 will have a small loop that takes off to the right. It was closed off while we were there due to being untraversable so we stayed straight and eventually came to the Lemhi Pass area. The CDT (continental divide trail) is there and it's right on the border of Idaho and Montana. Turn left out of the parking lot there and go about 1/2 mile on road 158. At the intersection of 158 and 013 is the Lemhi Pass. If you turn left, you'll enter Montana and there is another road immediately to your left (3909). Turn there and park so you can walk around and take some pictures. You're at 7373 feet above sea level. We walked up a little further to walk along the CDT and take a few pictures. If you leave that parking area and head left , you'll come to the Sacajawea Memorial Picnic Area in Montana. They have a wildflower trail there and the spring that's the start of the Missouri. Head back out to the Idaho side to head down road 013. This is the 3rd segment. This road is steep and narrow. There's some beautiful scenery here and more historical stopping points. You'll see Horseshoe Bend Creek area, the Lewis & Clark trail crossing from Agency Creek, the Agency Creek Campground (very small and primitive). Another 4 miles and Road 013 will dead end onto road 28 (Lemhi back road) . Take a right and go about .2 miles to Tendoy Ln on your left. Turn left and it'll take you back out to the post office where you started. Allow 2-3 hours for the drive and stops. Beautiful drive into an area that includes mountains, forests, and canyons that looks much like it did in 1805.Written 23 September 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
