Owners Neil and Rachel bought a beautiful 30 acre farm near Versailles, Kentucky in Woodford County in 1997 and began planting grapes, berries, apples, and peaches in 1998. They named the farm Wildside Farm because of the wild sunflowers and coneflowers that grew in abundance. In addition, the name fit because the farm was initially certified organic until they learned that a minimum of amount of pesticides was needed to keep the fruits healthy. They still use minimal pesticides. Each year they planted more grapes until today they have 5 acres of grapes, two acres of fruit trees and 1.5 acres of berries.Welcome to Wildside Winery your winery near Lexington Kentucky, the airport, and Keeneland racetrack! Neil is the wine maker at Wildside Winery and he loves making new and interesting kinds of wine. These unusual wines are often tricky to make and time consuming. They are often made in small quantities and are usually from fresh local fruit. A short list of the interesting wines are our new Bourbon barrel red wine made with Cabernet, peach mead, fresh strawberry, hard cider, and many other delicious wines. Another special wine is our Port wine. It's aged in Woodford Reserve Bourbon barrels. "We asked friends who lived in KY which was the best Bourbon tour and we were told to visit Woodford Reserve. We were not let astray. Woodford Reserve is top notch all the way. Classy, informative, beautiful, friendly, with great samples. We visited another in the are and it just could even compar..."e.
Woodford Reserve is the best Kentucky has to offer. Everything else is second best.
Warning though, the orders while wonderful to most may be too strong for some -- especially the young ones in your party. Just listen to them and don't push it.

"We visited for the Civil War Train last week and it was great. The actors were informative and friendly -- more then willing to share their knowledge and passion for the Civil War era with the riders. The shoot out was fun to watch. We thoroughly enjoyed all of it.
But what set this a part from ..."other historic trains, is the service from the people. Our son was taken by the heat and activities and got sick on the train. The staff, which includes some EMTs, took over and made him comfortable and well cared for. As travelers from FL we were a bit scared but they put our fears at ease as we knew he was in good hands. We were are forever grateful for their quick care, kindness, and ultimate professionalism. They made a difficult situation a bit easier to handle.
We hope to be back next year.

"Be sure to get in line for a tour on arrival. There could be an hour wait. Knowing this we planned a lunch stop here. Their food is just OK, but at least you can eat while you wait. They need to take a lesson from Jim Beam and let you reserve your tour ahead of time. The tasting at the end was very ..."disappointing. You can only taste their Woodford Reserve. We wanted to try their Double Oaked, but could not. They usher you to a corner counter and you walk by and they hand you a sample. No explanation or anything.
