Celebrating Maine’s Role in American Art, the Farnsworth Art Museum offers a nationally recognized collection of works from many of America’s greatest artists. With 20,000 square feet of gallery space and over 10,000 works in the collection, there is always something new on view at the Farnsworth. The museum has one of the nation's largest collections of works by sculptor Louise Nevelson. Its Wyeth Center features works of Andrew, N.C. and Jamie Wyeth. The Farnsworth's library is also housed in its Rockland, ME, campus. Two historic buildings, the Farnsworth Homestead and the Olson House, and Julia's Gallery for Young Artists complete the museum complex.

The Coastal Children’s Museum is dedicated to providing children ages 2-9 and their families the opportunity to explore, discover and learn through play about the natural world, the arts and sciences and the diversity of Maine’s coast. Our Core Values:* Each Child and parent/caregiver deserves respect.* Families are the first educators.* Learning occurs through play.* The Community is out first resource.* The Museum is responsible to the world and the environment. The Coastal Children's Museum opened at Sharp's Point South in the summer of 2009 and we are so excited about our new home and love seeing the children learning, playing and creating. Children (and their parents!) are exploring our indoor sailboat, CedarWorks indoor climber, and “Sharpie’s General Store”. The museum also hosts many species of tropical and Maine Coast sea life in our "Under the Sea Room" and our full size Gulf of Maine touch tank. We also have a daily craft at the art table , puppet theater, Tubes and Tracks, and a woodworking bench and wonderful puzzles and books all throughout the museum.Workshops, special guests, and family fun days are held at the museum entertaining and educating families on diverse topics. We have had programs on dance and movement, animals and insects, writing and poetry, and everything in between. You can also have your birthday party at the museum. Membership is affordable and it entitles you to free admission, and discounts on programs and events, birthday parties, and t-shirts.Check out our website which has details and pictures of all our exhibits, past workshops, upcoming events and more. Why not swing by your new Coastal Children’s Museum. We are open Wed-Sat 10:00- 4:00 and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00. See you there! Summer Hours Tues-Sat 10:00-4:00 and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00

"Almost a mile walk out to the lighthouse, but the stones are fairly flat. Doable in sneakers or flats. Worth the walk - nice views, plus we saw some sea birds on the rocks."
"Our first stop was at the converted Methodist Church that is now part of the Farnsworth. The exterior is nothing to "write home about" but the interior is spacious with interesting and pleasing architectural additions. A few steps away is the larger Farnsworth - a peaceful way to spend the morning..." or afternoon.
