St. Joseph's Abbey was founded in 1950 by monks of the Cistercians of the Strict Observance, commonly called Trappists. Work and prayer are the foundations of daily life here for...

"The chanting of the monks is not to be missed! Check the schedules as they do chant regularly on a set schedule. Beautiful and so peaceful. Grounds are beautiful and the gift shop is not to be believed as the Monks (Brothers?) are self supporting and make amazing jellies and jams, yummy candy, etc. ..."A unique experience to take kids (probably over 7, they need to be quiet in the short chanting sessions) as this is something they will likely not experience anywhere else. Don't miss this wonderful and unique experience.

"The Red Maple Inn is a beautifully and tastefully appointed B&B with strong connections to culinary and musical talents. Unfortunately, we were not able to partake in the Dinner and Movie option offered by the Inn. Maybe the next visit! Of interest, this couple (Shari and John) provides a complete..." culinary tour in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico (hotel, meals in private homes, tour guide, etc) where the owners spend a good part of their winter. Well trained staff continue on with the B&B in their absence. John Bills is also the artistic director at the Opera of San Miguel. He sang tenor in literally thousands of performances at The Metropolitan Opera in New York City under virtually every major conductor of his day. The most enjoyable part of our stay was breakfast where we shared conversation with other guests from Bavaria and England/France, etc. The bond and memories always come from the personal connections that we make.

"St. Joseph's Abbey is a campus of incredibly beautiful buildings and church with meticulously manicured grounds. I was disappointed that the only viewing of the church was through a blocked off visitor room at the front of the church. All other buildings were locked and unaccessible. I must reme..."mber that this is the home and vocation of dedicated men to the church and respect their privacy. The restrictions will make for a quick 10-15 minute stroll around the property, which is still worth the visit. The property would make for an incredible wedding location (however, I have no idea if this is allowed or could be arranged).
