I got a awesome Christopher Banks dress for 10 dollars. Go through the clothes very cool stuff you can find and plus size friendly, which was nice. Definitely worth a stop.

It had been several years since we had visited Applecrest (long before there was the Grille). We use to live in the area, and this was our place for picking apples or attending their Harvest Festival; always a good crowd. We learned of the Orchard Grille and it had been on our list for awhile. They serve lunch and dinner Wednesday through Saturday and on Sunday, Brunch from 9 to 3. Fortunately we were visiting in the area on a weekend, and had made plans to meet friends here for Brunch. What a great place, the ambiance, the service and the food were all wonderful. I had made reservations, and that worked out well, there were folks dining outside (thought it a little chilly, so glad we were inside, where they had a nice fire going in the fireplace). The Brunch menu was awesome. There were several variations on Eggs Benedict, and all the normal choices from pancakes to eggs any style. We each ordered something different and everyone totally enjoyed their choices. I had The Irish Benedict with corned beef hash, poached eggs, and hollandaise over grilled cornbread and homefries (nicely seasoned & delicious). I also ordered a side order of cider bacon, which I would not "normally" do; but after seeing it I had to try it. The bacon was sooo good! My wife had The OG Breakfast Sandwich; fried egg, American cheese, and bacon on a grilled croissant. The others had; The French toast stack; and lastly, The Farmhand, which was a lot of food; a pancake, one French toast, two eggs, two bacon, two sausage, homefries, and toast: and... a box for leftovers. Anyone who visits also needs to checkout the Farm Store. It's hard not to, as you pass through the store to get to the Grille. We picked up a frozen, bake at home, strawberry rhubarb pie, but there were lots of other wonderful tasty items as well as fresh fruits and vegetables for sale.

This shop offers you a nice break from the beach and the beach crowds. Go down US 1, south of Hampton and across the salt marsh. The shop is on the right. Brentwood antiques concentrates on jewelry, textiles, and housewares. You won't find much automobilia. There are some tools upstairs. The shop has a hobby train store attached on the upper floor for all you train aficionados.

Having driven past Hampton Falls Common along US-1 en route elsewhere hundreds of times, I finally had a day when I was spending most of a day in Hampton Falls, so I had time to get a closer look at what was there.

The monument near US-1 was the Gov. Weare Memorial column. Nearby, there were cannons, stacked cannonballs, and boulders with memorials to veterans of various wars and all the men and women whose life and work added honor to the Town of Hampton Falls which covered a wide variety of people from police and fire personnel to town officials, school personnel, athletic team coaches, etc.

At the other end was the bandstand.

There were also some park benches. One bench was in use by a local family for a picnic outing with an elderly relative. They’d also brought lawn chairs and a small folding table.

Near the bandstand, a man was sitting on a park bench and eating a takeout sub sandwich. I could tell that he was really enjoying it.

Across the road was the First Baptist Church of Hampton Falls, a classic New England church with white clapboards.

For a green in small town, it’s quite nice. I rate it at 4.25.

In town for a day, I visited First Baptist Church of Hampton Falls after walking around the Hampton Falls Common which was across the street.

In studying the architecture of the church, I could see influences of Greek Revival, Neoclassical, and Italianate styles. The corner returns are typical of the Neoclassical style. The roof does not have steep pitch. It’s relatively low-pitched which hints at an Italianate influence.

The formal organization of this church dates back to the fall of 1828. The meetinghouse was built 1835-1836. It opened September 1836. It underwent some repairs. The steeple was added in 1859. In 1892, the bell was installed in the tower.

The clock was added in 1894. It was a gift. Where the numbers would normally be are the words: MEMORIAL GIFT. This is the third time that I’ve seen this on a church in this general area.

The spire resembles a beer bottle. This is second time I’ve seen this type of thing. The spire had been a landmark for mariners. Sometime in the 1930’s, the spire was illuminated at night.

I rate First Baptist Church of Hampton Falls at 4.25.

The Hampton Falls Historical Society has two buildings. The main building is a museum; the second building is the Schoolhouse which is set back from the road at the rear of the library’s parking lot on Drinkwater Road.

On the Saturday of my visit, the main building had closed early due to a volunteer staffing shortage. The Schoolhouse remained open because the adjacent library was having a big book sale.

I decided to tour the Schoolhouse first before browsing at the book sale.

The front of the inside of the Schoolhouse was set up, as expected, as a school with school desks and bells.

A wall display had farm implements. The tree ladder was interesting. It wasn't the same width at both ends like today's ladders.

An enclosed glass case held Native American artifacts that included arrowheads.

There was an old-fashioned hand-cranked food grinder. It was similar to the one my mother used on her catering business. She favored it because it gave a medium texture to the ham and pickles that she used for the Ham & Pickle Finger Rolls that she served as part of the core of her standard Cold Sandwich Buffet Menu.

The young man who gave me a tour of the schoolhouse was very knowledgeable. It was great to see a young person into history and preservation.

For having two buildings and a lot of beyond-ordinary items on display, I rate the Hampton Falls Historical Society at 4.25 and can recommend a visit.

After visiting the Hampton Falls Historical Society’s Schoolhouse building, I went next door to the adjacent Hampton Falls Free Library where a big book sale was well underway.

Inside and outside, there were boxes and boxes of books for sale. Tables holding boxes were everywhere. One could hardly move around all the displays.

A side room had a bake sale going on. Samples were offered on some items. I took a sample of a cookie. It was too sweet for my taste.

Slices of Brazilian Carrot Cake were also offered. I scraped up a spot of the frosting from the serving late with a fork to taste it. It was very good. The baker came in a minute later. She made her frosting with just butter, sugar, water, and chocolate. She didn’t go overboard with sugar, so I really liked it.

I found the Children’s area well above average.

For a small town library, it was a good size and had a variety of books and other media, plus access to online resources.

I rate the Hampton Falls Free Library at 4.0 and can recommend a visit.
