"We read an article on the National Geographic's top driving tours and chose The Outer Banks as the main part of our June 2013 7-day vacation. Kitty Hawk is a main attraction on the OBX and, although we didn't expect much, we knew we couldn't just drive by without checking it out. We were so pleasan..."tly pleased and impressed with the monument, museum and visitor center. We wound-up staying for hours. The center is immaculately kept. The Wright Brother's story, as well as the portrayal of life in the remote fishing village they chose as their site, is thoroughly described with a movie, a lecturer, life-sized models of their planes as well as reproductions of their hangar and camp.
Their flight(s) are marked in the field so you can visualize the distance, and the memorial is impressive. I really enjoyed the gallery of portraits of important figures in aviation history.
