What travellers are saying
- Apolonia70adelaide1,580 contributionsThe Gray Line coach tour to Mt Field included a complimentary morning tea stop at the Salmon Ponds trout farm. Located about 45 minutes drive from Hobart. The venue has adequate car park space. There is a cafe, gift shop, gardens and self guided walk with map included of the various trout ponds and walking paths. A very relaxing place with large poplar trees lining the driveway to the entrance. The cafe offered us a pancake with Valhalla ice cream and tea/ coffee. Windows have outlook to charming gardens - no water lilies flowering for our visit. Lots of trout to see - various types and eels and breeding facility. The location has outdoor seating and a BBQ area. A relaxing visit and delicious pancake. No trout products on sale at gift shop. Worth a stop if you want morning tea, snacks. Enjoy.Written 2 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Paul Tania KMackay Region, Australia16 contributionsThe view was lovely, just a short drive on a dirt road. However, I wouldn't like to do it if it was raining, I imagine the road would be slippery and it is quite steep.Written 10 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CodyMavGold Coast, Australia27,709 contributionsWhat a great park for the locals. - kymnye2014Greater Melbourne, Australia188 contributionsWhat an amazing place set in the grounds of the old mental institution.
Vintage motor vehicles and rooms of antiques. A little overpriced. We were taken with the 1860's women's hospital which was offered for us to purchase 'at the right price'. Amazing history. Definitely worth a visit if only for the buildings themselves.Written 18 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Whitehavengirl43Sydney, Australia1,155 contributionsThis is rather fascination to see but no one seems to know how to develop it into a tourist attraction. some nice garden areas and old "junk" Worth a wander!Written 16 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dan LBunbury, Australia7,494 contributionsSo much potential here but still a nice area with lawns, picnic areas, memorials, murals, a beech tree planted in 2012 to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth, and the dry fountain. I was taking a photo when a local collared me to advise that it hadn't worked for some time.Written 26 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SMOAI76Tasmania, Australia1,421 contributionsGreat to actually visit the distillery having sampled and enjoyed their rum in restaurants in other parts of Tassie.
Easy to find on a main road just south of New Norfolk's main centre with street side car parking available and a few off street car spaces too. If you're towing a van or in a camper I'd suggest sticking with on street parking.
Retail and tasting area at entry, the distillery area can be seen at distance from the retail area, guided tours are available if you want to 'get up close'.
Helpful staff.Written 20 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I especially liked the 2 stouts. The seating is varied with lounges, high seats both outside and inside. There are indoor plants everywhere inside making for secluded areas for each group of people. With a great soundtrack in the background. A great venue for a drink with friends.Written 1 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - FyingKiwiChristchurch, New Zealand949 contributionsA very easy scenic walk (partway) along the Derwent River, spoilt only by the noise of traffic on the other side of the river.
Would suggest doing the walk in an anti-clockwise direction to avoid the confusion of track directions despite the occasional signpost. Certainly, everybody else met on the track was going in this direction.Written 9 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is more a flea market but has some great local items that can be purchased. Was not overly impressed with the markets but once again theybare for the locals.Written 27 June 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
