Spend The Night Aboard The Battleship TEXAS!That's right. You and a group of friends can actually spend the night aboard this huge Battleship. Sleep where the actual sailors who lived on her bunked down for the night.Battleship TEXAS was commissioned in 1914 and is the only surviving US Navy ship to have served in both WW I and WW II. The Battleship TEXAS become the Nations first Battleship museum on 21 April 1948. Located at the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site in La Porte, Texas (just out side of Houston, TX). We are open daily to the public 7 days a week from 10am - 5:30pm. The ship is under the care of Texas Parks and Wildlife. The Battleship Texas Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which works closely with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) for the preservation, restoration and presentation of the world's last dreadnought-type battleship, the historic Battleship TEXAS. The BTF sponsors the Overnight Education program where we host any group size from 15 up to 78 people, from the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Schools, Church Youth Groups, US Naval Sea Cadets, NJROTC, ROTC units, and any other interested parties. That's right. You and a group of friends can actually spend the night aboard this huge Battleship. Sleep where the actual sailors who lived on her bunked down for the night.

"From the bowels of the ship to the bridge, the hard hat tour ($30) was far better than a self guided tour ($12). The docents were outstanding and explained the unique features of the ship, going places not open to the public. Lots of steep ladders (where the hard hats are needed). It is a miracle ..."that this ship is still around despite years of neglect. This is the only WW1 dreadnaught left on the topside of water. Finding it is easy if you can follow signs, but beware the police car waiting for speeders on the long approach.

"No real way to describe the visit other than to say that it's a piece of history that leaves an impression. It's a must to go the top of the monument. The view is absolutely amazing. Take time to at least walk around the Battleship Texas too. Lots of photo ops here."
"We expected to see JUST a monument, but what we got was so much more! The museum has a video presentation that was absolutely wonderful, with tales about the start of white settlement in northern Mexico which became Texas (pronounced Tae'has under Mexican rule) and after. The museum itself has man..."y artefacts and photos, to the agreement with the Mexican government allowing settlement and land distribution, to the events that led to the settlers fighting with the Mexican government and army, the Alamo, Texas joining the US and also after. I could have spent an hour or two more just wandering around! Several bus loads of school children were there at the same time, and we were so impressed with their good manners! Bravo teachers of Texas! You are doing a great job!
