A world search, which also included France, Germany, North and South America as well as Australia for the ideal area with perfect conditions for viticulture, especially for Pinot Noir, brought Kai Schubert and Marion Deimling, graduates of the German Viticulture and Oenology University in Geisenheim to the Wairarapa, New Zealand. Schubert vineyards are closely planted and the unique climate produces low yields and internationally award winning wines with intense and complex character; predominantly exported to currently 25 countries.

Choose a 'Martinborough in a Day' tour and take the stress out of drink/driving. Fully hosted, visit four vineyards, enjoy a lovely vineyard lunch and visit an Olive Grove or take the 'Pinot to Palliser Bay' tour for something different. This tour goes to the fishing village of Ngawi and the seal colonies at Cape Palliser. Enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch on the beach and a beer or coffee at the historic Lake Ferry Hotel. All tours are conducted in luxury vehicles hosted by a local who knows the region intimately. This is your opportunity to go behind the scenes, meet winemakers and producers not normally available to the general public, while at the same time tasting the fantastic produce and wines of the region.

Walk with us round our 20 acre farmlet. All our animals are very tame and most love to eat from your hand. In season you can milk a cow or a goat. You can help shift the sheep, talk to Basil the miniature Rawhiti buck, or his wives, collect the eggs from the hens or the ducks (if there are any!) and feed the geese (employed as watch-geese in the orchard!)You can feed the sheep and the cows and hear how we are trying to preserve some of the country's rare breeds.

"We visited Poppies because we had had a bottle of her fine Pinot Gris at Wakelin House in Greytown the night before and wanted to check out her other wines. Unfortunately everything except the delicious Pinot Noir was "sold out" but on a chilly drizzly afternoon we settled in by the warm fireplace a..."nd had one of their terrific "Vineyard platters", a collection of delicious salmon, grilled and sun-dried vegetables, relish, tapenade, etc and glasses of the wines available. Enjoyed the friendly and lively atmosphere with lots of other visitors and will be looking out for Poppies wines in future. Great function centre too.

"What a perfect setting for a relaxing break away from the city. My partner and I spent a lovely two nights staying at the cottage at Vynfields. We loved the big roaring open fire in the evening and relaxing in the hot tub. During the day we made the short walk into Martinborough (about 10 minutes) a..."nd visited the local cafes. On our return we sat outside the cottage with a glass of wine in hand looking out onto the vineyard. What a great setting for a few days of good wine (we especially love the Vynfield's Riesling), food and relaxing (or exploring all of the vineyards that are so close to hand). We will definitely be going back.

"Poppy herself was a wonderful hostess, and the wine tasting was unpretentious and nice. The venue is really welcoming, and we loved the concept of platter style food as the only option - no decisions required!! Lovely service, lovely simple food, and really great glassware. Well priced, and highly ..."recommended for a friendly relaxed late lunch.
