"No crowds and a much more extensive tube. Manager Steven is extremely knowledgeable about the longest lava tube in the world and he enjoys sharing his wisdom. If you are athletic and a little adventuresome, ask for the more advanced tour down the vertical entrance. About 20 minutes into the tube, yo..."u will encounter amazing veils of ohia tree roots. Ohias are the only plant capable of piercing through the lava rocks to grow on lava fields and their root systems extend deep into the tubes. Less adventuresome or athletic, visit the horizontal entrance near the visitor office. Steve will outfit you with helmets and lights, Wear hiking boots and sturdy clothing! A wonderful adventure for small, private groups!

"During our trip to the Big island (Hawaii), we booked a tour of the Kilauea Caverns of Fire, which is a guided tour of a 600 year old lava tube. I enjoy photography, so I brought a DSLR camera with a large flash. The location is remote and you will need to follow the directions explicitly to find th..."is place. Steve was our guide. This trip is not for anyone that has trouble walking on rocks or loose gravel. It is not too demanding, but you must be somewhat sure footed. You can opt for the 1 hour shorter tour or the 3 hour adventure. For most people I would suggest the shorter tour. Steve was a wealth of information on the various lava formations in the cavern. I would estimate we walked about 1/4 mile into the cavern and then back. Steve pointed out numerous lava formations. The cavern opening is located about 25 miles east of the Kilauea Volcano, so...

"Following our rental house owners advice we booked this tour for the day after Easter. We went to the companies headquarters to gear up... A little tough to find so be careful. We were met by Steve our tour guide and manager:). We got geared up with helmets, gloves and lights. I would wear a band..."ana next time helmets were a little stinky. Then we were in our way to the tunnel entrance. Steve was very passionate about the lava tunnels and very knowledgeable! He kept us feeling calm and safe even though we were in a lava tube under the ground with only a few lights. Our adventure was amazing and we were exhausted after our 3 hour tour👍. If you love history and natures wonders this is a tour for you! Mahalo
