The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is a 501(c)(3) Scientific and Educational non-profit, whose mission is to serve as a nature preserve and sanctuary, a living seed bank, and a study center for trees and plants of the tropical world. The Garden is dedicated to the collection and display of the world's tropical plants, and to the education of both children and adults about the plight of the world's rainforests. At a time when rainforest plants are disappearing at an alarming rate, the Garden is working to preserve as many species as possible for the benefit of future generations.

"So lovely this rainforest filled with tropical plants! I could not take fifteen steps without taking another picture. We also got to see TWO mongeese up close, but they were too fast to catch on camera! When you see the Bay and the ocean and the rocks being hit by the waves it takes your breath away...". So beautiful! Lasting memories!

The garden also provides free umbrellas if needed. If you want to feel like you are in a jungle this..." is the place to go

Driving north of Hilo on Highway 19 there is a sign for "4 Mile Scenic Drive", it is 8 1/2 miles north of Hilo on the Big Is..."land of Hawaii and the drive up to view the lush vegetation and beautiful waterfalls along the Hamakua Coast itself is worth it. The initial descent into the Onomea Bay is very steep so don't stress there is a golf cart driver who can take you into the level part if you cannot make it down or back. I have to admit I was skeptical of this "attraction" from the outside it looks like it could be a boring rip off-because ever...
