A cozy and hip 1970s-style café, Cafe May is a fun place to kick off your day. The drinks and snacks are cheap, yet oh-so-tasty, and the comfy couches are a great place to enjoy them. Choose one of their selection of board games for an early morning duel.

An undisputed Hamburg highlight is the city's floating docks, called Landungsbrücken. Enjoy a walk along the promenade, taking in the magnificent view of the Hamburg Harbor — with all its ships and seagulls. Seafood restaurants are ubiquitous on these docks, tempting you at every turn with delicious fish rolls...

    Tips
    • A cheaper alternative to the expensive barge harbor cruises are the public ferries. They run up and down the Elbe, and you can use them with your public transportation day ticket.

The Rickmer Rickmers is an old sailing ship that once imported rice from Hong Kong. Today, it is an interesting floating museum moored at Landungsbrücken (the floating docks).

    Ann-Kristin B Says:

A stroll along the Landungsbrücken promenade will take you to historic Speicherstadt, the warehouse district. Here red warehouses, built on timber piles, sit between narrow canals. The area was once a custom-free zone, where coffee and spices were stored. Today, it is under constant redevelopment and home to many offices and museums.

    Ann-Kristin B Says:

The 'heart of Hamburg,' Jungfernstieg is a street and promenade along the southern coast of the Inner Alster lake. There are a lot of shops and restaurants here, as well as companies offering boat tours on the lake. I recommend taking a walk here, past the luxury hotels, and across the Kennedy Bridge, which affords fantastic panoramic views of Hamburg city center.

Situated on the bank of the Inner Alster Lake, on the famous Jungfernstieg, Alex is a modern restaurant offering you unique views from your dinner table. Because of its location, it is always crowded and can get noisy too, but the views make it worth a visit.

Night clubs, bars, brothels…The Reeperbahn is one of Europe’s most famous streets — and Hamburg’s Party and Red Light district. It may feel a bit seedy in the area, but that is all part of the attraction! To check out the trendier bars and clubs in this area, explore the side roads Große Freiheit and Hamburger Bergs.
