Points of Interest

1. Gulf Junction Trailhead

The Gulf Junction Trailhead has ample parking, covered picnic tables, restrooms, and a quintessential Florida setting with lots of greenery all around. It is well marked off the highway with the brown & white state signs as well as green & white trail signs.

2. South Citrus Springs Trailhead

This trailhead is located off US 41 on South Citrus Springs Blvd. It has restrooms, drinking water, and picnic tables available.

3. Inverness Trailhead

This would be a good place to start your trail ride not only because of the great trailhead, but because there is a bike rental shop called Suncoast Bicycles near here. They not only service & sell bikes, but they also rent recumbents and a wide variety of other cycles.
This trailhead has some parking and restrooms and it is near a park.

4. Floral City

Stop here for some bagels, to rest at the trailhead, or to shop in the quaint stores of Floral City. Whatever your purpose, this makes a good midway relaxation point.
There is a fairly new trailhead in Floral City with a nice little gazebo for some shade. There is also a great bike rental shop nearby called Hampton's Edge Bicycles. Stop in and see... More

5. Istachatta, Florida

Even if you're not hungry or thirsty, you should stop into the Istachatta General Store. It's a landmark, possibly even a shrine. Oh, and it's also a post office, pizza shoppe, and boiled peanut outlet. Every great rail-trail has a vintage general store, and the Withlacoochee is no exception.

6. Ridge Manor Trailhead

About one mile east of hwy. 75, on the Croom Rital Rd., you'll find the Ridge Manor Trailhead. It provides plenty of parking spaces, restrooms, and picnic tables. Watch carefully for critters on the trail in this area. It's not unusual to see a turtle or deer ambling down the trail.

7. Owensboro Junction Trailhead

Whether this is the beginning or end or your journey, hopefully this will not be the end of the Withlacoochee Trail. There is talk of joining the Withlacoochee with numerous other Florida trails for one giant loop trail. Sounds like heaven to me. Until then, enjoy this little 46 mile slice of heaven right here on earth.

8. nearby activities and adventures

For some people, the trail is their #1 destination and everything else is just fluff. Then there's those folks who seek the trail as an escape from all the hectic vacation activities in fun-filled Florida. Either way, there's lots to do when you're in this neck of the woods, and the trail is just icing on the cake.
