There's no "art" here, but I like to start off a day of touring with a great breakfast! The Guenther House offers this, plus beautiful outdoor seating on the quiet banks of the San Antonio River -- very picturesque.

There's a little gift shop in this beautifully kept house. You can pick up goodies and gifts like mixes, preserves, baki... Moreng tools, and more.

The Guenther House is located near the Blue Line trolley stop, and free parking is available on S. Alamo St.

The Blue Star Art Complex houses several galleries, as well as studios and residences.

If you're lucky enough to visit on a "First Friday" (evening), you'll find the complex hopping with openings and performing arts events.

Walk around and investigate the outside sculptures. The examples in the photograph may not still ... Morebe around when you visit, but there's always something contemporary and new installed. As you can see, even electrical boxes sport "art" around here.

Some of the other galleries are hit or miss, but take a look around.

My favorite (first) stop in the Blue Star Art Complex is San Angel, which has been open for over 20 years, and which was named after after the suburb of San Angel in Mexico City.

If you're looking for paintings of Bluebonnets and cactus, this is not the place for you. "Eclectic" and "weird" art rules here. This nationally recognize... Mored gallery also has a large collection of Latin American art.

Hank (owner) and Leigh Anne (manager) are very knowledgeable and love to share information about the variety of exhibits and pieces done in ceramics, metal, wood, fabric and glass.

After leaving the Blue Star complex, you'll start to head north along the river on the famous River Walk. Just north of Alamo St., you'll soon come to this nice overlook above the water. This walkway swings out over a bend in the river, and it's a great place to take in the view or take some photos. From here, you'll continue to head north along... More the walkway, toward E. The River Walk has been (and continues to be) built in several sections. As you go along this walk taking in the sights around you, remember to look down and take note of the sidewalk itself.

Each of the sections takes on the contemporary style from the era in which it was built. The sections closer to Downtown show signs from the W... Moreorks Progress Administration (WPA) of the 30's. Here, just past Guenther St., we get a look at what was hip in the 60's.Less

Another great collection of galleries! Well over a dozen different galleries are located here in La Villita. You can find just about any style from those serene Bluebonnet paintings, to jewelry (is that really art?) to local "starving" artists' work to various eclectic assortments.

Particular favorites are Artistic Endeavors, Found,... More and Monte Wade.
