This was our first stay at a ryokan. We received a warm welcome, and our room (standard room in the new block) was quite nicely designed, although the bathroom was a bit shabby. We ended up using the showers in the onsen area, it just seemed more convenient (when combining with a visit to the onsen). The onsen itself was... More

We stayed here for a night on Miyajima, while a little pricey (but then that could be said of staying anywhere on miyajima) it was our favourite stay of the entire holiday, and Miyajima is stunning. When arriving at the ferry terminal, ask tourist information to phone iwaso and they'll come and pick you up in their mini-bus - while... More

Stayed here 1 night on our first trip to Japan in April. Have to first say that Miyajima is one of the most beautiful islands I have ever been to. We wandered up to Iwaso from the ferry and found it easily after 20 mins of walking. We were shown to our rooms (2 rooms as we have 2 kids!)... More

During the week we spent train hopping in Japan, this is by far our best (and most expensive!) experience. If you seek a close-to-nature and relaxing place then this is the place to go. The surrounding is absolutely astonishing, with steep hills, creeks and a compact wall of green just outside the window. The food was delicate and the onsen... More

First time in a Ryokan, so hard to compare with others. Ryokan is a special feeling. Very friendly service. It was a while since the place was renovated so 1970ish is quite present. And food is very japanese. For westerners I think I night is enough. Price is also quite high. But if you never did this before it IS... More

We were met at the ferry site by an Iwaso driver in traditional Japanese garb. We were taken to our traditional style set of rooms in an older building surrounded by beautiful woods and a nearby stream. Our building included a bath as well as two bathrooms. Our needs were all attended to by the same young woman (in traditional... More

We stayed here two nights and had a wonderful stay. We had a corner room with views to both the colorful maple trees and the roof top views of the town. We had both dinners in our room. They are of great quality and a true joy to us. More

We spent one night in a traditional 'honkan' style room at Iwaso. The setting, next to parkland and a stream, is idyllic and peaceful. The welcome and service was typical of the best Japanese ryokans- friendly and highly courteous. The kaiseki dinner that was served in our room was extremely high quality and beautifully presented. The communal onsen baths were... More

We really enjoyed our stay at Iwaso. Everything was of a very high standard - the room, the food, the hospitality. The view from our room looked straight into the tree tops and the room itself was beautifully quiet. The onsen has indoor and outdoor baths, the outdoor bath is particularly nice and overlooks the forest and a clear water... More
