After a bumpy, dusty drive from Mtwara airport you arrive to a very calm peaceful environment. The Old Boma is a small renovated colonial residence. Don't expect the same amenities of all the chain hotels. There are no phones, tvs or hair blowers in the rooms. Bring your own shampoo! But that been said, the charm over rides all that...the rooms... More

We stayed at Old Boma for 6 nights in end January, beginning of February. We enjoyed the nice room/balcony. To swim in the pool, the nice surrondings around the pool. Ehere we had our meals. The good food. The staff was very nice. The hotel itself is very nicely renowated and we very much like the idea of Trade Aid.... More

We arrived there with no idea as to what to expect and we were very surprised. This hotel great. It's a very small hotel (9 rooms), no A/C, no usual creature comforts. You do not notice it because of the quality and service you get. The staff are extremely helpful, the building ( an old German fort dating to 1895)... More

The Old Boma is a colonial era German residence which towers above sleepy Mikindani village like a white walled castle. From the terrace you can look out over the horseshoe shaped bay. A visit to the hotel feels like a trip back in time to colonial days, but with some modern adjustments like a gorgeous swimming pool in the courtyard.... More

Please note that although at present Old Boma reviews appear under Dar es Salaam, it is actually near Mtwara, right in the south of the country. This is a wonderful hotel, run by Trade Aid, with excellent local staff (and great volunteer support from Europe). Clean, calm, great rooms, good swimming pool, and quiet walks all make this a great... More

We spent six nights at the Old Boma, a beautifully restored German (and later British) colonial centre in Mikindani. Mikindani is a beatuful and unspoiled coastal fishing/farming town, largely comprising thatched mud houses and a few old colonial buildings (some of which are now ruins). A short stroll through the centre will elicit dozens of greetings from the local people,... More

We spent 3 nights in Mikindani at the Old Boma and loved it. The place has been amazingly restored and is now a charity run hotel through Trade Aid UK with the local community. It promotes creating educational and employment opportunities for the local community and assisting in the development of a sustainable tourist industry . The rooms are very... More

We stayed at the Old Boma in summer 2005. Its run by a British NGO to a good standard. The hotel is set within a 19 thcentury German Administration Post. The rooms have very high ceiling and you have a pool to keep cool in. Some of the plaster is coming away here and there so don't expect a sterile... More
