The menu at Aranygombos is written in Hungarian, English, and Slovakian. That does not mean however that the staff are happy to see you if you don’t speak Hungarian. If you don’t speak Hungarian, don’t choose this place, unless you like dealing with people who don’t hide their disdain for you. Have you ever approached the host with the reservation book and have him roll his eyes as you ask about table availability for the following night? And when you are back & seated the following night, have you ever had a server actually roll her eyes at you as you try to order dinner? And then, has that server ever forgotten the garlic mayo dressing- because it was a Friday evening & she was wishing she were elsewhere- & instead of apologizing, made you understand that it was the cook’s fault? If you don’t speak Hungarian, all this will happen to you if you choose this restaurant. As for the food, it made no lasting impression on us, unlike the crap service. Their poor attitude might be tied to the fact that there are only 4 places to eat In Telkibánya; we tried a csarda-type place across the road our final night, and although the folks THERE were patient with us & gracious, it was fairly... oily food. The other eatery I know of is a to-go pizzeria. The Aranygombos restaurant knows you’re stuck! If you plan to overnight in Telkibánya, you’re better off bringing groceries with you.

Beautiful hotel among hills with perfect hospitality, good spa and kitchen. Local wines and spirits (palinka). I recommend the 'gönci barack' (peach spirit)The rooms are a bit eclectic, they`re all clean and tidy. The service is good, nothing extraordinary. The prices are relatively cheap, the surrounding roads are awful.

We found this place via tripadvisor (we were in next city). the service was great! we were with small kid, they were helpful to open the diper-change place, where we found a lot of accesories. THe place itself were full! the table was great, the vine was excellent, best selection from the whole country! Food was real country side food from Hungary! excellent mix of wild-pork and vegatables

I had a wonderful time here. The place was so clean, the food was wonderful. Breakfast was so different from American hotel breakfasts. Cold cuts cheese fruit very good. The common room was so cozy. I will go back there again when I return to Hungary.

We have visited this retaurant after all-day Tokai trip because have had a lack of sweet. It was a very good choice to stop there. We tasted Somloi galuska and curd cheesecake with sour cherries. Both desserts were delicious and served in family old time restaurant with many antique accessories.

Excellent luxurious remote place to chill. From the bar you can see into the forest whereas you sipping your excellent cocktail listening some nice musik in the backround. Then you have a choice of two out door ams one indoor swimming pool. 2 jacuzzi one of them is outside. The waiter brings your drink to your sunbed and you just become one with the warm hungarian summer. You feel yourself like a king. We spent our time in the basi room which was excellent and tidy. And have a look on their website. The prise is really wallet saver. I highly recommend the place to every one. We definitely go back in the next summer.

Very good place to stay and to have cosy dinner. Actually, I was here with a large group, and we booked a set of bungalows at the edge of the woods in the back of hotel, all newly built and well furnished. Something you would not expect in the middle of nowhere. All very nice and it was perfect to separate ourselves from the rest of hotel. Staff was helpful and competent. The food is classic East European, in good home made style with larger than healthy portions. :) all in all: it is a very likeable place.

I had low expectations for rural Hungary, so I went with the nicest rooms in what seemed to be the nicest place. So this review is for the new rooms -- almost apartments -- that are in the "yard" out by the pool. These seem to be fairly new construction and are very nice. Certainly better than we expected. It was all very clean with modern decor, the wi-fi worked fine, and it was very spacious. On the negative side, the TVs (there were two) were small, there was no shampoo or soap included (bring your own), and there was no maid service. I hope they are able to keep the property up as it ages. We swam in the indoor pool, which was nice (but should have towels on site -- it did not). For some reason, the breakfast the first day was fantastic with nearly everything you could want, including a wide selection of homemade jams. On the second day, they had much less stuff but did make a plate of eggs for us. Overall, I'd not hesitate to stay here again. I have not been to the other places in Telkibanya, but we walked past most of them and Aranygombos Fogodo looked more active and modern. So if you happen to be in this corner of the world, this is where you should stay. They speak almost no English, but you can muddle through.

A stayed few days in November, last year at this inn. Telkibanya has three (!) bigger places to stay, but no doubts, this is the place to stay, I tried all of them, thrust me. They tried to catch the rural ambient, still missing few spots. But after climbing up and down in the mountains, we were happy with this reward. The bathroom and the room and the bed are well clean. Also they had a spa area, it is very nice corner, not too big, but it is just next to a lovely stream! This was the best thing, the worst is too far from Budapest, almost 3-and-a-half hours by car... The night we payed included a fair breakfast, anyway, if I have time come this far to disconnect from the city, I'll stay here next time again.
