The owners are very friendly, polite, and helpful even though their English is limited. After the hike, taking a shower and jumping into the tub and come back out relaxed and clean. And then a lovely dinner waiting for you. I love the dinner every night. It was substantial portion with very fresh ingredients. You can tell the effort and thoughts into the food. The room is spacious and clean. The design of the minshuku is simple yet modern. Love the cute lamps! Regarding the location, although it is not in main town but there is a bus stop right outside of the minshuku so it was convenient enough. One of the perks being a little away from main town is probably able to see many stars at night. I only wish the foton was thicker and the AC can be colder. Otherwise, it was a very pleasant stay and frankly with lots of little small good surprises. …

Perfectly situated for exploring the beauty of Yakushima's mountains and beaches. The wonderful fragrance of the timber hits you on entering the building and immediately sends the message that this is going to be a relaxing, nature-respecting place to stay. The food is quite superlative - we stayed for 4 days, so had 8 meals, and nothing was ever repeated. All the ingredients were local and fresh and the dishes perfectly seasoned - and in just the right quantities. Living life on the floor took its toll on our creaking bones though - the floor is quite hard even with two shiki-buton, and there are no tables or chairs anywhere in the building, so not the place to come if you want to spend time writing your novel or relaxing with a good book. But as a cosy base to return to following outdoor adventures it's perfect.…

I stayed at this minshuku for one night only with 3 other friends. We had booked one room for us but on arrival were told that we were being given two separate rooms because one might be a bit small; the price was the same. The whole place has wooden flooring and we slept on very comfortable futons. There was nowhere else to sit in the rooms other than on the floor; the main living/dining area had low tables where everyone sat on the floor, on rugs with cushions. This was fine for us but may be too traditional for some. The bathroom had the normal shower/washing area plus reasonable size bath. The location of the minshuku is a way from both ports but very convenient if you are planning on visiting YakusugiLand, using the Arakawa trail to hike to Jomonsugi, the Onoaida trail, or for visiting the outdoor seaside onsens. It is located on the main road that circles the island, so could be reached easily by bus. Noise from the road or other guests was not any problem. The place had a very welcoming feel; the family who run the place provided great service. However they do not speak English, so be aware of that if you are a non-Japanese speaker. Based on other reviews on tripadvisor, we elected to have both dinner and breakfast at this place and were not disappointed -- dinner was a large selection of delicious Japanese foods with a modern twist, including the local specialty: flying fish sashimi. The Japanese-style breakfast was also delicious. I would definitely stay at this place again and recommend it to others.…
