Stayed here as part of a group tour and had one of the renovated rooms in a courtyard at the rear of the building. Spacious and beautifully decorated, and nice to crash outside your rooms on the day beds if you wish. Food ok - its all buffet style. Staff very friendly. More

Spent 2 nights in the in former royal residence in Karauli which was built in 1938. I had one of the older rooms and it was hugh and still furnished from the 1930's period. Dinner and breakfast were buffet and adequate, Staff were friendly and helpful. Lighting was a little dim but added to the atmosphere the place, Walked through... More

Stayed here as part of a small group (12 people) tour. Karauli is a bit (well, actually, a lot!) off the beaten track, which made the whole experience even better. All a bit faded, but nonetheless OK, Staff friendly and helpful. We had one of the “new” rooms only just (barely) finished – comfortable and spacious. Dinner buffet OK, Breakfast... More

OK, so it is difficult to find - there's no sign board outside telling you that the property behind the locked gates is indeed Bhanwar Vilas - and yes, it's a little dim and there were power cuts whilst we were there. But as another reviewer said, this is the house that was built for the Maharajah himself in 1938... More

We spent one night in January 2011 here. It might be a time lapse into the 30s and it is run by the local raja but still we found it unacceptable. The main problem was that it was disgustingly dirty. The bathtub was grimy and when we asked the staff to scrub it in came someone with a rag starting... More

Initially I was afraid ti travel to Karauli after reading the comments on Trip Ad visor.. Accommodation was fantastic, comfortable & staff was very cordial & helpful. Royal family was there to see that everything went off nicely. Travel in city was excellent, Old hotel was really a work of art. Guide arranged was good & gave us good insight... More

After driving for almost 6 hours from Delhi, we reached karauli. To find that hotel, we asked for it and the outside view is such that we passed away from the hotel and could not locate the hotel. Finally we came back and located it. I would not call this a hotel but a haunted house where there are dim... More

We spent 4 nights in this shabby badly-run hotel. Dark rooms with no natural light and bedrooms were not cleaned nor beds made up daily. Toilet not flushing but not repaired in spite of requests. Food very basic and not good - everything looked unclean - rooms - table service. Swimming pool empty and extremely uncomfortable beds. Not recommended for... More

This is not an ordinary hotel. This is the palace which the Maharaja of Karauli built in the 1938 for himself and his guests, and where his family is living until today. The rooms are furnished in the original style of the 30s and 40s, and you can admire pictures of tiger hunts from these old days hanging at the... More
