Decided to stay in Calheta rather than Funchal and so glad we did. Funchal is overcrowded with the tourists from the cruise liners and you do not meet the same genuine Madeiran people as in Calheta. I recommend hiring a car at about £110 per week and you save on transfers and have freedom to explore the island.
Hotel very...

A rapid drive through 29 tunnels from the Airport and we arrived within an hour!!! Did'nt look too special but once inside and walking past orchid displays we found a super hotel. The room and balcony were spotless, the maid just great. Buffet food with good choice. The only 'but' there would be that us Brits do tend to like...

This hotel has everything that should make it a great hotel but it lacks that little something.
Great position, good facilities, lovely staff and good food although the fish tended to be overcooked. However, it lacks that secret ingredient that distinguishes a great hotel from a good one, style, panache, character or whatever! We were all inclusive and it was...

We had high expectations towards our holiday and the hotel didn't dissapoint us! The staff was welcoming and friendly, the rooms had a beautiful seaview as promised, the pool area was relaxing and good services from the poolbar. Location was also perfect, away from the big city and easy to explore the island with a car. A supermarket across the...

First impressions were good, the hotel was clean and the room modern and attractive.
However there were some "gotchas" that we found frustrating.
1) and most annoying, smoking...the room below us seemed to have people who smoked all the time and it came up into our room if we opened the balcony door...so be careful to get a room that...

We stayed from 7th to 21st January this year, and a lot of what I was going to say, has already been covered by "mothersday". I would add that another problem arising from the cliff repair and the road closure, is that several small cafes and restaurants along there are closed, so there is no alternative to the hotel for...

We stayed in Calheta Beach Hotel for two weeks from 11 to 25 January this year. The hotel is hard to fault; clean comfortable rooms with little sound from other rooms; plentyful, delicious food; pleasant, helpful staff; most enjoyable sauna , Turkish bath and indoor swimming pool; large clean towels for swimming. I could go on.
The hotel provides free...
