We stayed in the Royal Lotus hotel as part of a tour with Acme Travels. The location of the hotel is good for visiting the attractions of the 'cultural triangle', and there is a great view over the local lake. The room is pleasant; roomy and clean without being spectacular. The food is probably the biggest downside of the hotel.... More

Walking into the hotel we were greet by a beautiful reception area with stunning views over Giritale Tank. However the good bit ended there. We went downstairs to the basement to fin our room - very strange concrete decor with an ugly upturned lamp (designed that way) that seemed to have more than its fair share of ingrained dirt and... We stayed here for one night on our way to Polonnaruwa, the ancient capital of Sri Lanka. Whilst here we also took advantage of local bike hire to cycle along the pathways that follow the extensive canal network in this area. Initial impressions of the hotel are very good, this being an attractive modern stone clad building with every room... More

during our sri lanka trip we had the 'pleasure' to stay in one deluxe room on the first floor with nice view to the lake for 100$/night. A/C was very loud, so as an alternative we used the fan. However, we couldn't fall asleep until 1 at night and moreover i had the feeling that something is itching on my... More

This was the first hotel on our planned tour and made a very good start to our trip. The rooms were comfortable and the food and associated service was excellent. The presentation of a birthday cake to a member of our party was a bonus. The view of the lake at the end of a tiring day was most refreshing.... More

I was in that hotel for one night on a round trip. The rooms are very average, but clean. It deserves a nice update. The setting from the hotel is very nice in front of a big lake. It is very nice to relax after a long day in the van. The food is exceptional. The staff deserves a very... More

Perhaps I was fortunate but I had a perfectly acceptable stay at the Royal Lotus. It's a shame there's no Trip Advisor "good" option because this hotel was more than "average" although not quite "very good". Reading previous reviews I worried that I had made a mistake in booking here for my group of 20 but the hotel was better... More

This hotel looks nice from outside - the entrence is nice designed, the pool area, lobby with lake view... But once you enter the room, you will find old and dirty furniture and a srilankan nightmare - bathroom window to the corridor. Thanks to that, your stay will be noisy day and night :( The water in shower is perfectly... More

Greeted nicely with a pleasant complementary drink, lobby and reception looked very clean and compared favourably to western standards. Very helpful staff with WIFI problems. However, the room was old fashioned and did not reflect the quality of the lobby. Everything did work but there seemed to be a lack of attention to the details (such as exposed concrete plinth... The hotel has nice views of the pond (which is easy accessible and offers nice birdwatching opportunities in the earl morning), a nice lobby with Nymphaeas at the front door and, depending on the weather and the number of guests, a restaurant by the pool. Food was ok, specially the Sinhalese dishes, but not incredible. Rooms, on the other hand,... More
