We stayed in this hotel for three nights when doing ancient cities. View from the terrace is good indeed. Otherwise rooms are small, some with ancient AC units rumbling all the time. Definitely needs thorough renovation. Food (breakfast and dinners) are far below average. Also drive to all attractions (except Pollonaruva) is a bit long. Much better to look for...

Well it's time for a refurbishment to the hotel and new chef is needed who can come up with a better food selection. My first hotel visit in sri lanka which had a western menu for breakfast without omlette. This was my second trip to the hotel since 2000. Rooms now need a rewamp in line to new concepts that...

The hotel itself is located on a beautiful lake and has a very relaxing feel. The staff were very helpful in making our stay enjoyable. There were, however, a few issues:
1) The hotel, although listed as in Dumbulla, is actually a very long drive away from all of the main attractions (i.e., cultural triangle). It is located on an...

My comments echo those of others I think.
Great staff, beautiful views of lake - nice pool too. Great spot to base yourself for couple days whilst exploring area.

The hotel is beautifully situated but you need transport to go anywhere. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was pleasant and the buffet breakfasts were good with plenty of choice. The evening buffet was mediocre, catering for western tastes and there were a lot of tour groups. For genuine Sri Lanka food, take a tuk-tuk to the Hotel...

Not recommended. Noisy..This seems to cater mainly for the big coach tour groups of which there are many doing the rounds in the cultural triangle. Our downstairs room echoed every footstep from the corridor above, the aircon unit was about 30 yrs old and rattled so loudly it could be heard through earplugs, bathroom filthy, mouse droppings in the sink,...

We spent 2 nights here while visiting the ancient ruins at Polonnaruwa. The distance between the two was no problem (provided you have transport). The location of the hotel was lovely with great views. Facilities were of a high standard and there was also a laundry service which was most welcome! The only shortcoming was no hairdryer which is not...

We stayed at this hotel while on tour, so can’t comment on the price/value. The hotel has a wonderful view of Lake Giritale—sit back with your Lion beer on the veranda and enjoy! The room we had was also great. Everything in good repair, strong air conditioning, lots of hot water, a view of the lake. Up on the top...

Upon arriving at the Giritale, we were impressed. It had a nice open air lobby with a beautiful view of the lake, and welcome drinks were served. We enjoyed our stay until that point. Then we learned that there was no wifi - ok, we're used to that in Sri Lanka. But then they offered a internet-connected PC for $2USD/15...
