Stayed for a couple of nights recently for a family visit nearby. Made to feel very welcome, not least by the party atmosphere from local people on Fridays and Saturday nights. I would normally run a mile from karaoke style entertainment, but on Friday nights there are some splendid singers and my wife and I enjoyed it enormously. Not luxuriously... More

Great value hotel this one. We received the warmest of welcomes on arrival. Made to feel very welcome and at home. Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Shower was excellent. And although we didn`t get a chance to sample the bar area (Cos we were out for the evening at a prog rock celebration in... More

Thank you so much for you review. We are glad you enjoyed your time up here including your evening watching the tribute band. We definitely acknowledge there is still work to do here as we continue to update things but are delighted that that did not detract from your enjoyment. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. More

The bedrooms are old and basic, but the bathroom was brand new and there was a note in the guide in the room which said they are looking to refurbish all rooms by the end of 2013, and for the price we paid we were more than happy with the room. When we arrived we went into the bar which... More

This old-style 'Ma & Pop' motel is cheap, simple, friendly and clean. The home-prepared food is also good value. Speaking as someone who normally avoids pub events, the entertainments put on here most nights of the week are brilliant - a real sense of un-self-conscious community and bonne homie pervades the place and sets The Mercury way above the usual... We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. The Mercury was apparently opened as The Route 66 Motel before changing its name to the Mercury. We are really blessed with wonderful staff and customers who all try to make guests welcome. Hope to see you again sometime. Regards Ma and Pop. More

I have not been back for some while, and there were some changes following a pattern of regular maintenance and improvement - the dining room has a fresh new decor, for a start. But what stays the same is the warm welcome offered to guests of all ages, not only upon arrival, but in the events which happen at regular... More

I truly can not in good conscience even rate the property all I can say is this motel should be demolished and rebuilt. On our arrival at this establishment on the forecourt of a petrol station we received our room key to enter something I honestly would not have believed unless I had seen it with my own eyes. Firstly... More

I selected the Mercury as it had positive reviews, some one wrote it was like a "home from home" - I can only assume they lived in Middlesbrough or some other abandoned North East colony. The staff were friendly enough but stumped when asked for VAT receipt for food, though this was finally resolved by the manager. Although toldf internet... More
