We were booked to stay seven days in condado. That hotel was a nightmare. After checking out of that hotel at 7:30pm not knowing where to go we called Casa Libre. They welcomed us and even offered to cook us dinner when we arrived. I have never stayed somewhere and felt more like family. They really turned our trip around. This was our second stay at this lovely B&B. The room was perfect. The pool was fabulous. From now on this is my go to hotel in Puerto Rico. WE LOVE CASA LIBRE!!!!!!

We were staying at a friend's house in the same town only to discover they had a busted water pipe. So, what do we do last minute and not wanting to stay further away from our current location. My husband searched the internet and found this wonderful inn. We contacted the owner's immediately they were gracious enough to let us see the room spur of the moment.the room was adorable and right next to the pool which looked out over the ocean. The room was spotless. The property even has two friendly doggies. The innkeeper went above and beyond to help us.they made us feel like friends not just guests. I can't rave enough how lucky we were to find such a great place to stay.

Very clean, well maintained lodging with big rooms and wonderful view over looking the small town. We easily walked into town for dinner. This is a fishing village not a tourist tract experience and we loved it. Want a PR history lesson? Just ask and you'll get an enlightening education on Puerto Rican statehood. We would return

We rely heavily on Trip Advisor reviews so chose this place based on good, although not recent reviews. Perhaps things have changed dramatically for the worse since earlier reviews. We may never have walked away from a lodging before due to its conditions but did this time. First of all, we arrived at 4 pm based on an e-mail saying check-in was anytime after 3. The gate was locked. We called the number listed as well as one in their e-mail. No answer at either. Later we got a call saying she would not be back for 40 minutes. They also asked if we had a reservation which we confirmed we did (don't understand why they wouldn't know since they had our deposit and had e-mailed a confirmation). An hour later, we called back (they didn't) and were told they were now home and cleaning the room (no explanation why it had not been cleaned earlier). When we did get to the B&B we were told the Purple Room that we reserved had a toilet that wasn't working so they changed us to another "similar" room. There were never any apologies for any of this. The room we were given was in very poor condition. The ceiling fan did not work, 2 out of 3 sets of blinds were broken, the mats next to the bed were filthy, the glass shelf at the sink in the bathroom was broken, etc. There may have been more problems but these were too many for us to feel comfortable staying. In addition, the swimming pool water was filthy and no way would we have considered going in it. When we explained to the owner that we were going to leave and find a better place, he seemed to understand the problems and said he would refund our deposit via PayPal. When we arrived home a week later, we had not received the refund. I e-mailed him to enquire, but did not receive any reply. We are very experienced travelers and have visited many countries and types of lodging. This was about the worst ever. We advise you to stay away.

The Casa Libre guest house was exactly what my fiance and I were looking for! The owners are from Puerto Rico and Northern California and were extremely helpful and friendly. We arrived to PR with no plans besides renting a car and exploring. They are located about 45 minutes or so from El Yunque National Forest. We called Casa Libre a few hours before we needed a place to stay and they had availability for us. Our phones died right before we arrived at the home so we stopped for a minute in the little town by the boardwalk for a beer and to charge them and the owner actually came and found us! Our room was clean and large enough for about 6-8 people. It had a tv (which we didn't turn on), a mini fridge, free wi-fi, it's own private bathroom and air conditioning. They have a private pool for guests and a bbq area. The home overlooks the ocean and is just a few steps away from it as well as the little town there. It was a little noisy as they had a kid's party going on but it was right up our alley, we didn't mind. Definitely give them a call to book a room to check out this charming area. You may need to call them further in advance during busy seasons.

This is a very late review, but I have to share my experience. My husband and I stayed here in August of 2013 for my birthday. We'd been to St. Croix and 3 other cities around Puerto Rico before coming here, so we were hoping to have a relaxing last 2 nights on the island. We were very satisfied. Naguabo is a small town, so we were well away from any crowds, but we did have a car to drive anywhere we wanted. We found a long stretch of beach, and a row of local eateries right across the street from said beach, all of which was right down the street from Case Libre. The owners were great, we had fresh breakfast each morning on the balcony. The room was comfortable and very clean. Jose and my husband got along great, having multiple conversations, and we spend both our nights there in the pool. The time we were there, no other guests had checked in, so we had the large pool deck to ourselves. I would return to Naguabo just to stay at Casa Libre.

I would rather stay at Casa Libre than any 5 star hotel. Why? 1) I don't like crowds. When I go on vacation i want to meet the locals, not a bunch of other tourists. 2) They provide a nice semi-private breakfast every morning. 3) I can drink a beer and watch the sun set from the pool deck. I can take a dip in the pool if I want. 4) Josue and Dawn are great. 5) After watching the sun set, I can walk down the street and have great seafood or burgers for dinner. It is safe and the walk is beautiful. 6) Dawn and Josue have a list of great places to visit. Many are not in the guide books. Ask about the best swimming hole on the island (I won't give away the name) - it is great, and a bit of a secret. We used Casa Libre as our base to explore Puerto Rico for 7 days. We always tried to be back by 5:30 PM for the sunset. You should be aware that Casa Libre is a real house, and you are renting a room with it's own exterior access. It is not a 5 star hotel. You will meet the owners, their daughter, their mother, their dog, and their horse - they live there. They have cars in the driveway, but there will be room for you to park. The wifi does not penetrate reinforced concrete walls well - but I could get a good signal on the pool deck. The water pressure is fine if they are not doing laundry - just let Dawn or Josue know before you take a shower. There are roosters on the street, and they will probably wake you at 5:30 AM. I just put an earplug in and slept for another hour. I like to get up early anyway. If you want a "real" Puerto Rico experience, Casa Libre is great. If you are looking for a resort, you probably should consider other options. I would take Casa Libre over a resort any day.

We spent just one night here and enjoyed our stay. We were in the "green" room on the first floor. There is a swimming pool with a lovely view of the bay. The guest house is located within easy walking distance of several bars and restaurants. The owners were quite nice and went out of their way to be helpful. Breakfast was excellent (scrambled eggs, bacon, sweet rolls, juice, coffee, bananas) and served outside by the pool. The cons would be that there are many roosters in the neighborhood ( this didn't bother us but may be a concern for others), there is no hot water except for a water heater over the shower head and plugged into the wall, and there is no television. In addition, the water seemed to be turned off intermittently. This is a great place for some but its important to be aware of the issues.

Our stay at Casa Libre was great. What made it great were the people who owned the house. We ran into each other at the grocery store and Josue gave us a tour of the town as we followed him back to the house. He also showed us where to grab lobster for a cook out on their pool deck. Do not expect to be overly enamored by the area surrounding the house. For people who like tucked in a local fishing village with chickens and dogs in abundance this is the place for you. If you are expecting fancy...this is not. It is down to earth, friendly and local! Josue and Dawn will get you anything from reservations for a tour to rum at the store in a heart beat. Thank you guys!!

My girlfriend and I took the ferry from Culebra to Fajardo and couldn't get a taxi. The port turned into a ghost town. We ended up calling the owners of Casa Libre's and Dawn ended up picking us up herself. She and her husband Josue were extremely accommodating from our pickup at the ferry till our departure 4 days later. Only planned on staying one night. Their place is located on a hill overlooking a beautiful bay. There backyard has a cute little pool with fountain and a new deck where everyone hangs out .Had breakfast there everymorning, which was delicious. They also have a bar and bbq which I used a lot. I got fish from the local market just 200 yardsd own the road. Nothing like fish caught that day on the bbq. And bbqed churraso another night, they graciously let us use their grill and other all other things we needed. My girlfriend and I had a romantic dinner on the deck everything I asked for was provided by the hosts, even some of special needs (medicinal). Overall they made us feel so overly welcome( ( really they went above and beyond), we enjoyed our whole stay, after 2 days we moved to the second floor with amazing oceanview from bed, honestly I loved looking at those views from bed This is not a 5 star hotel with many amenities, but it was perfect for us couple who hates that kind of place. wifi, tv to watch when we fall a sleep, pool, deck/patio with gorgeous views for breakfast, lunch and dinner, which was THE perfect spot for us. Honestly I love these places that are more personable rather than all fancy cold places. The hosts hospitality was just the best.
