Located in the quiet town of Vouilly, we were not quite sure what to expect on our arrival at the Chateau de Vouilly. We were all excited (and relieved) as we drove up to the chateau. The grounds are kept beautifully and great for a walk. We were luck enough to join the owner, James, and his three dogs for... More

We were 3 couples traveling together and visiting the beaches of Normandy and we are all in agreement that staying at Chateau de Vouilly was definitely one of the true highlights of our trip! The Hamel's were very welcoming and gracious hosts, eager to share the history of their home and the area. Make no mistake that this lovely place... More

The most moving, and arguably the most memorable, moments of a month-long trip to France last September occurred in and around Mr. and Mrs. James Hamel's magnificent Chateau Vouilly and farm. Site of the first press room following the D-Day Landings in June 1944, and briefly invasion commander Gen. Omar Bradley's residence at that time, the Hamels embody the spirit... More

My wife and I spent three nights at the Chateau de Vouiilly in September and used it as our base to visit the D-Day beaches. The chateau and surrounding farm exude history with some portions dating back to the 10th century. James and his family are marvelous and accommodating hosts and he has a cornucopia of books, maps and information... More

We spent 2 nights in the magic Orangerie suite, 3 rooms with wonderful views. The chateau, the gardens, the nearby pond, and the farm all offer unforgettable experiences and our family enjoyed every moment. We were having breakfast in the very same room where the press reports were typed during D-day…a very significant detail for my history studying son. James... More

We were a group of 6 (3couples) and we stayed at Chateau de Vouilly 3 nights. It was one of the highlights of our trip. The rooms are spacious and beautiful, the location is perfect for exploring the Normandy beaches, James is a wonderful host, and the home is rich in history. James even made a picture of our group... Great hotel. We had a charming 3 room "orangerie" suite. Great place from where you can explore the Normandy Beaches. The host, James, is exceptionally helpful. James will gladly spend an hour talking about the chateau, the Normandy Beaches and the surrounding area. There is a charming XIII century small church in the village. A lady living in an adjoined... Whilst this hotel is a little bit off the beaten track, if you have a car it is a great location to visit the D-day beaches and sights. The setting could not be better. It is rural and old, but well maintained and James the Inn-keeper was very friendly, speaks good English and was always ready to help make dinner... More

A short drive from Bayuex and 20 minutes Omaha Beach, this Chateau was built in the 1350's. A beautiful setting in the country, the Chateau is surrounded by a mote and lovely gardens. James Hamel, the owner greated us and ushered us to our two large rooms, each with a large bathroom, and views overlooking the gardens and countryside. Breakfast... More

We stayed two nights at the Chateau de Vouilly, with our days spent touring the Normandy landing sites and visiting Bayeux. The chateau is beautiful, as are its gardens, and has an interesting history including its use during WW2 by the US Press Corps. The owner and host, James, is a very charming gentleman who gave us a warm welcome,... More
