Stayed for 2 nights in adjoining chalet-type room just off busy road. Room a bit dated and small but facilities adequate. Had 1 evening meal - nice but not as good as they had made out it would be. Great breakfast.

We stopped off to stay here en route to the Orkney islands and thoroughly recommend this lovely cottage and its friendly and kind owners. The accommodation is lovely: our rooms were next to the road, but we were not disturbed by traffic AT ALL and this was the height of the holiday season. Very comfortable accommodation, delightfully comfortable bed and...

We arrived really late (later than we had said!), yet had a friendly reception and no complaints. Slept like a log. The breakfast was really tasty and the ingredients were high quality. Best poached eggs I have eaten. Also very good value for money.
A warm welcome, clean comfortable room and superb evening meals and delicious breakfasts - especially the smoked salmon and scrambled egg!
We stayed for 3 nights in the room nearest to the road and whilst some traffic could be heard, there was very little after 10-00pm. We are light sleepers and it did not disturb us.. We would certainly stay...

Recommended for cyclists; super evening meals, for closeness to station + opportunities to cycle on routes to the north.
Ray and Linda a most welcoming and friendly couple who went out of their way to ensure that their guests were well looked after. Ray as a cook for many years provided a most varied, excellent and delicious dinner with all fresh produce and a breakfast of size and taste to last the day. Linda meanwhile served with her happy...

They have three rooms. I cannot comment on the room inside the main house, but the external rooms are right on the main road - loud traffic all through the night. You could not sleep with the windows open. And I could not sleep with the windows closed - there is a real damp problem here, very bad musty smell....

A bit of a mixed bag. Garve's a great location for the hills but Birch Cottage is right on the main road and traffic noise intrudes badly into one of the rooms. Having dinner on the premises is a plus but it can be difficult to make a choice from a lengthy menu when standing in the hall whilst dripping...

If you are looking for a holiday or short break with all the trimmings expected of a big hotel, then Birch Cottage is not for you.
But, if you are looking for a truly 'five star' experience in local Scottish hospitality, excellent food, good value for money, very clean and comfortable accommodation and easy access to all areas of the...

I have stayed at Birch Cottage on many occasions and have sent people to stay there all with the same results, good.
I cannot comment on other peoples opinions but my own is of content and absolute surprise at the service of the owners and the evening meal is what one would expect from a top class restaurant and all...
