Hi never stayed here but have eaten and had a few beers food id very poor abut service is good Bar staff can be rude and pretentious apart from catherine who was really nice. I would never return again as found food was plain and way over priced stick to Thornhill Inn More

Dear jee2000, Thank you for your review, it has been very helpful. Interesting though that you have waited 4 months to write the review. I wish to let you know that the hotel has now changed ownership. We took over the business on the 4th April and are currently closed for a full refurbishment of the hotel. We are looking... More

Arrived as 2 dirty bicyclists at this traditional hotel and will put up in large, comfortable rooms and baths. Pub menu at dinner in cheerful bar room and good traditional breakfast to follow. The chef obliged by cooking up some chanterelle , which we had found. This hotel could make more of itself. There were fascinating black-and-white photographs but no... More

We've just had a fantastic holiday in Scotland. Went up on are bikes and stayed at the Buccleuch and Queensberry hotel in Thornhill near Dumfries. It was really well situated for our day trips to the coast and lovely villages. We saw some spectacular scenery and the owner let us park the bikes round the back of the hotel in... More

I recently stayed at the Buccleuch and Queensberry Hotel with my young daughter, Where i found the rooms very comfortable and exactly what we were looking for, i found the staff very helpful and friendly, we also ate in the hotel where we found our requirements well catered for and of an excellent standard. I would definitely recommend the hotel... More

Visited Thornhill for music festival recently. Received very warm welcolme at the Buccleuch. Beautiful, grand, old style hotel. The food was excellent quality and the staff very friendly. Had a lovely room with all mod cons. Nice, cosy atmosphere with proper log fire. The surrounding scenery is breathtaking. Pretty village and met some lovely people. Will definitely visit again! More

I stayed here in September. I have known the place for 25 years. It is always Russian roulette staying here and I guess there is some fun in that. Some years it is okay some years it isnt (it was boarded up one year if not two). If you just need a room and a roof over your head for... More

Not very welcoming at all, after ringing the bell a few times and finding a member of staff someone eventually came to the desk but they were clearly on the phone having a chat and wasnt happy at being disturbed. The hotel over booked and one of our party was sent elsewhere,(we had booked a few rooms) they tried to... More

I understand both the good and poor reviews of previous visitors. I love the hotel because it is old fashioned, the service is good and the food is home cooked and really good plus good real ale. The rooms are old fashioned and there is always something that doesn't work but they do fix it! However heating has always worked... More

We went to Thornhill recently to attend a wedding at Sweetheart Abbey. We stayed a night at this hotel as all other possible accommodation was fully booked. The staff were pleasant and helpful. We had asked for a quiet room and were given one on the top floor ( no lift), a very small roo indeed. One bedside table lamp... More
