Breakfast was really poor, cooked breakfast was freezing and inedible. Spa staff came across very rude and un helpful. No information given on arrival to the spa just took our names and handed a bag with a robe and that was it. The restaurant staff were lovley however expecially millie.

We have just returned from a spa stay at Mottram Hall. Unfortunately it didn't live up to it's iconic name. On arriving at the hotel, both of us were excited but sadly our high expectations were soon squashed. The hotel overall is in a beautiful setting, sadly tired in it's interiors which could be easily addressed. The room we stayed in was clean and functional. Dining at both restaurants the food would have scored a high rating. So why the poor score......it's staff. From the moment we arrived everything seemed too much trouble, no guidance and definitely what we would have expected. The Carrington restaurant was the only place that staff members seemed trained in customer service. On our departure we both could not believe how suprised we both were on the lack of staff training and customer service. So my advice that if customer service is high on your list of expectations, that this may not the place for you to stay.

Dear allyr22, Thank you for taking the time to review and leave feedback. I am pleased to read that you enjoyed the food in both restaurants, along with the service in the Carrington Grill. Delivering exceptional customer service across the resort is always at forefront of what we want to achieve as a team and so I will discuss your feedback with the team and look into those areas in which we can improve. We have invested significantly across the property with refurbishments to the Spa, bedrooms, Champagne Bar and St Andrews Suite and this investment is ongoing. We do hope to see you back at the hotel again. Kind regards, Sarah, Operations Manager

We stayed for two nights across Mother's Day weekend as a pair of friends. Gabriella on the spa reception welcomed us to our weekend and she was incredibly helpful and friendly! The room was very spacious, stocked with a wide selection of herbal teas etc, soft towels and comfortable beds. Housekeeping staff were very attentive and friendly when we saw them in the hallways. The spa is a little smaller than anticipated but truly such a relaxing environment! We loved the saunas and laying out on a bed by the lengths pool. The outdoor pool was small but beautiful. The person who worked behind the bar in the spa (long, dark hair and beautiful nails!) was super friendly and again so welcoming. The first towels and gowns we were given for the spa were a little tired and grubby but asking for fresh ones each day wasn't a problem and we got super fluffy ones after this. The spa was most busy on Saturday morning as it seemed to have a lot of locals with memberships making use of the facilities. We each had a Head in the Clouds massage by Lucy which was absolutely incredible. Lucy had a friendly and warm personality and really made me feel comfortable during the massage! Breakfast at Carrington Grill was brilliant - Beth was super friendly and remembered us on both days. There's a good selection of fresh/dried fruits, meats, cheese, hot breakfast items, pastries etc. As a vegan there was plenty I could have from the continental breakfast and Beth offered me a cooked vegan breakfast which came with sausage etc. Plant milks were available but no plant butter. We ate breakfast around 8/8:30 both days and it was very quiet. Lunch at Rafaella's was light and fresh - as a vegan I was able to have beetroot houmous and pitta and the wellness bowl which was surprisingly delicious. Our evening meals at Carrington Grill really made our stay, though! We had some really delicious food options - I'd recommend asking for the vegan menu as there are more options on there including the most incredible desserts! The stuffed pasta was also amazing and there’s even a vegan halloumi starter. On the second night we were served by Ethan who was so personable, chatty and helpful. As a result of his charm we ended up chatting to the two tables either side of us, exchanging stories and even connecting on LinkedIn! Ethan really made the weekend with his funny charm and we spent over three hours sat chatting away amongst tables thanks to him. We really didn’t experience any of the negatives we’ve seen in other reviews - check in and check out was a breeze, our room was lovely and we had a great time in the spa.

This hotel and spa is in a lovely location and could be absolutely brilliant if it had a bit more of an eye to fine detail. My room, though initially impressive, was ready for a refresh. It was clean but quite a few drips on the bathroom wall had been missed. Daily cleaning was minimal - my towel was straightened and a cup replaced but that was about it. No fresh tea bags or coffee were supplied. I’d have expected a little more for the rate I paid. Dinner in the Carrington Grill was very lovely and the service attentive. Breakfast was a little less impressive - the scrambled eggs looked more likely to have been made from some kind of mix. They were odd. I met some friendly reception and restaurant staff. The gym and spa facilities, though I didn’t use them, looked great. So overall, yes, I enjoyed my stay. I slept well in a comfy bed, enjoyed the location, grounds and dinner. Parking was good and people were nice. But it was quite pricey and if I’d been paying the bill from my own money, I’d have expected it to be totally on the mark.

Initially dissapointed with having to walk, in the rain, in between the spa and the hotel, and car park with baggage. Last time we came the facilities were linked via a corridor which has now been integrated into a function room , resulting in guests having to walk around the hotel, in all weathers, between the spa and hotel. Very odd and I know this doesn’t happen in any other champneys - it feels like us northerners are being badly treated. Spa staff would seem to prefer to stand around talking in groups rather than provide any level of decent service, there doesn’t appear to be any permanent adult supervision. On a brighter note! The restaurant in the hotel served good food and the highlight was the level of service, with particular mention of ambidextrous AMBER, a delightful young lady, professional but at the same time warm and chatty and a good listener. Champneys - you need more Ambers!

Dear malcmix, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed the service/food and will be sure to pass on your feedback to Amber and Chef. Our spa does now have a separate entrance form the hotel and our team are happy to help when needed and can transport guests to and from via buggy. I shall discuss your feedback with the team, however, we are very proud of having a diverse and mixed aged workforce at the hotel. We hope to see you at the hotel again soon. Kind regards Sarah, Operations Manager

Myself and my Dad visited Mottram Hall yesterday, 10th March, for Mothers Day. On entering the Carrington Suite, Deniz greeted us and took us to our table, and kindly took our drink order and gave us the Mothers Day menu. Bubacar was our waiter, both Deniz & Bubacar were very friendly and efficient throughout, the food was delicious, although very filling, listening to the lovely live singers and being given a Champneys goodie bag when leaving was all a lovely treat. i am looking to book a spa stay for my birthday in August, and I will be recommending Mottram Hall to friends & family.

Second time coming back after a disappointing stay last year. Much has improved since, it looks like they are beginning to get the right staff in at last. Guys in the spa did well with the capacity. We had a drink at the spa cafe. The girls at the reception greeted us with towel and robe and flip flops. I got locked out my locker at one point but one of the (I think PT?) Craig helped me out. Met the new fitness Manager Leon and the South African GM and overall was a massive improvement from previous visits. I am due to come back in the summer.

I visited Mottram Hall for a Mother’s Day treat over the weekend and my experience was splendid. From start to finish I felt welcomed, comfortable and enjoyed every minute. The food in Rafaella’s was tasty and will definitely be returning. The lady looking after us in the restaurant called Beth was so polite, went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect for our visit. It’s alway a bonus having such friendly staff making you feel so welcome when visiting somewhere new. The Spa also I cannot say anything bad about, cleanliness was 10/10, facilities were great and again will definitely be returning and recommending to my family and friends. Already looking at booking in the near future. Thank you for an amazing visit, all staff are a credit to you.
