We tent camped 3 nights in May 2012. If you are a tent/van camper and feel you'd like to be in close walking distance to the restrooms, be advised that the air hand dryers sound like jet planes taking off. So if you want quiet, stay far away from the restrooms. Ice is cheaper from machine near the shower house... More

We camped here in April 2012 in an RV: it's a stunning location, very clean and well managed, quiet at night (though cold at this time of the year), the bus is easy to get to and runs until late at night (we did a moonlight walk in the canyon), easy walking distance of the shop, and just fab in... We were in three campervans and chose to stay here because it was wooded and pretty, unlike the Trailer village next door. There was no hook up but it was so much nicer, spacious and with great trees for the kids to play among, a barbecue pit to cook dinner on, a campfire to warm by toasting marshmallows after and... Have stayed in Mather four different times. I use it as my base for backpacking trips below the rim. You can't beat it for convenience (easy walking distance on paved trails), cost or amenities. Hot showers, flushing toilets in the campground, regular shuttle bus service to the ENTIRE park/rim area - no complaints. $18 a night for a site in... More

Since the basics of this campground have been so well explained by others, I'll just add a note on the shuttle bus and RV parking situation. The shuttle bus stop is convenient, but a bus comes along only every 15 to 20 minutes. We wanted to see the sunrise over the canyon. We got up a little late and rushed... More

Our family began the leg of a 12 night trip camping 3 nights at Mather. This is not a very private or especially scenic campsite, but we loved it. What a great way to see the Grand Canyon and enjoy all that the park has to offer. We arrived just before a downpour and got our tent up just in... More

This is a National Park operated campground and has no hookups. It is a beautiful park with paved sites and about half are pull-thru. All sites have a combo BBQ-fire ring and picnic table. If you can boondock, consider staying here. Generator hours are from 8-10 am and 6-8pm. There is a laundry, $1.75 wash and $1 for dry (8am-4pm),... More

My fiance and I camped here while visiting the Grand Canyon. It was late March and very cold! We woke up to an inch of snow the first morning. There wasn't very many campers due to the cold weather so the campground was not busy. I did give it only four stars because, had it been July, it would have... More

This summer, we car/tent camped at the Mather Campground while visiting the Grand Canyon. It was very inexpensive. We were allowed to bring our dog, as long as he was leashed. The spots were SUPER close to each other, so if you have quiet neighbors, it is fine but you are right on top of each other. The park was... More

We booked online (recreation.gov) and check-in was quick and easy, and friendly. We stayed three nights here, in a tent pitch which was clean, shady and not too far from the loos. Tents are mixed in with RVs, generators can be noisy, but everyone near us respected the evening curfew. Each pitch had a picnic table and fire pit. The... More
