Currently four nights into our seven night “vacation” AKA Time in Hell at Playabachata Resort. No Air Conditioning in our room since we arrived, calls to reception each day asking to have someone repair it have been ignored, at this point I’d say it’s more likely to snow here in hell than have working A/C during this trip. The “concierge” are really here just to harass you each day about going to a Time Share presentation, the word No is not understood or respected here. I personally don’t go away to sit and listen to someone try and swindle money from me, but they will not accept No as an answer. For the A La Carte dinners (two per week) you’ll need to line up at 8:30 on a Sunday morning to try and get a reservation. We were able to get a reservation for the Italian Restaurant, the menu posted in the main hall, clearly showing what’s available is completely different from the actual menu available. We travelled with our 3.5 year old, and although the staff (concierge Miguel) was aware of this when he offered to make our reservation (prior to being asked about the Time Share presentation) the reservation was still only made for two people, he assured us that we would be given a table for all three of us. The restaurant had 12-18 empty tables, yet we were sat at a table for two, no where to seat our child, with a post directly behind my husband’s chair, he was literally unable to sit down or stand up without hitting it, and no we’re not fattys. We asked for rum and coke, the waiter said Pepsi, we said sure with rum please, no rum, and no mention of it to us. We simply walked out without ordering, and the waiter asked why, like he was surprised. The buffet is repetitive, but you won’t starve, however be sure to bring a glass or you won’t be able to have a beverage of any kind, because again the staff doesn’t actually assist you, even after asking for a beverage several times, from different wait staff. When going for breakfast be sure to bring your towels to reserve seating, as after 9am all of the pool chairs have been reserved. Although there are signs saying you can not do this the rules seem to only apply to visitors, locals can do as they please, and are often extremely loud and ignorant, again to be expected here at the Hotel Hell Playabachata. WiFi is available in the lobby only, but don’t expect it to be sufficient to do any work, FaceTime or even check emails. Yes you shouldn’t be connected to your device while you’re on vacation, but it’s 2024, there is absolutely zero reason why they don’t have WiFi that’s sufficient enough to even check your email. Yes we understand this is a reported 4* (maybe by Cuban standards, but a 2.5* at the most by Dominican standards), however there will not be a next time at this resort, I’d rather stay home then be stuck here in hell for another day. Save your money and go elsewhere, how people come to this excuse of a resort for more than seven days is beyond me, and it’s obvious repeat visitors only come here because it’s all they can afford, because no one would willingly come back to this hole. Save your money and go to a different resort, this one is falling apart and the staff and management could care less. I’m sure like everything else this review will be ignored as well by hotel management.…
