Carol Egan <carol.egan@gmail.com> There is no place like Casa Colonial in Oaxaca! The staff is my favorite. They have been there for years. The ladies remind me of Mother Teresa. They gently care for us. The breakfast is delicious and the entire Casa is spotless. The gardens are my second favorite. With a parrot and birds chirping away. Casa Colonial... More

This is the best place if you are bringing your dog to Oaxaca, large grounds, lots of space, the staff were wonderful and caring (the staff actually are the best part of the Casa), as for me, my room was so noisy (and shabby, peeling walls, dribbling shower, separate hot/cold water faucets on the sink) I couldn't sleep and the... From the moment I contacted the staff at Casa Colonial to make arrangements for our stay I knew we had perfect place to stay. We were travelling in a group of six extended family members and the staff went out of their way to make sure we had the right configuation of rooms. They even helped me plan a big... More

I always thought the least of your worries on vacation was the hotel. That's because on vacation, you are always on the go, and all you really need is a place to keep your stuff, take a shower, and sleep. After staying at Casa Colonial, I have changed my mind. Although there is plenty to do in Oaxaca, it was... More

The Casa Colonial is much more than a beautiful hotel, it's like being welcomed into a warm community. You are treated like family and meet interesting people as at the center of the dining area is a large dining table where everyone eats together. The rooms are typical of nice traditional hotels in mexico that are warm and beautifully decorated,... More

Casa Colonial has several strong points: a lovely garden, a spectacular library for both Mexican subject matter and current U.S. fiction, and above all its warm, competent manager Amado and other excellent staff. Unfortunately it is in an unattractive neighborhood about a 20-minute walk from restaurants and tourist attractions. Moreover, although we could appreciate the "homey" quality that others have... I've made five trips to Oaxaca and five extended visits at the Casa Colonial. Ill be leaving the Casa in a few days to explore Mexico City, and i began this trip in Belize. Each time I explore new territory in Mexico and Central America, but always start, end or both at what feels like my home in this region,... More

As a professional travel writer, I never contribute web reviews like this. But I was moved to express how utterly charming and welcoming this place is. Filled with lovely, friendly people - both guests and staff - as well as eye-catching sculptures and paintings to boot. A true home away from home, but with the whimsy of a wonderland.

I recently stayed at Casa Colonial for 5 days with a friend and was enchanted with the experience. Everyone at the casa was incredibly friendly (the staff as well as all the other guests we met), and Amado, the casa manager, was so helpful and wonderful. He helped us organize hiring a taxi driver for an adventure out to neighboring... More

Where to begin? This was my first time in Oaxaca and staying at a B&B. When my travel partner and I arrived we were instantly enchanted by the quaint, traditional Oaxacan decor and friendly staff and other visitors. Our room was spacious with tiled floors and decorated with lots of handicrafts from the region. Really charming. Private bath was small... More
