What can I say? I totally fell in love with this place! :-) I had had one night in Cancun (only to sleep after my long flight), then four nights on Cozumel (also wonderful for the snorkelling and I had my first ever dive!) and had arrived at the ADO bus depot feeling hot and bothered. (I always carry too much stuff!). I walked down the road to Rancho T (only a few blocks down - don't worry about a taxi unless you can't carry your luggage - just turn right out of the depot and keep walking on the same side of the road - you'll be there in 5 minutes!). I rung the bell, and the moment I walked into the place I felt the stress drop off me - I had come home! :-) I had a little hut (number 1, with a painted fish on the door) with a charming little deck with a hammock in front, looking out through the greenery (the garden is sweet - very green even in the dry season!). The room didn't have aircon, but actually (at this time of year, at least - I don't know how it is at the hottest times) cooled down very well with a fan - I ended up having a wool blanket on top of my sheet. Now don't expect luxury here - this is a good, old fashioned back packers place. Bags of funky charm, including a large breakfast table and benches where people hang out for breakfast and in the evenings (I got addicted to their great waffles with maple syrup and fruit - they do pancakes, too, and if you buy your own eggs they'll even cook those for you!). Lone travellers can feel comfortable and might end up planning expeditions together and maybe sharing a car rental. The place is multi-lingual, of course (though everyone I met spoke at least some English, and staff are fluent), and I heard some great travel tales! It is also very child-friendly. The toilets and bathrooms are in a separate little house only a few steps away - there are four, and I never had to wait. They were well cleaned. There is also a lounge with an exchange library - if you're short of a book, you're sure to find something you like there. There is a TV, but I never saw that on. Why would you want to watch TV when you're in paradise?! What else can I tell you - I guess I would say bring ear plugs, unless you are a very heavy sleeper. The day times were fine, but this is Tulum - wherever you stay, there are going to be nights with parties in neighbouring places (and music 'till 3 or 4am!), dogs barking, people talking, traffic (more if you're nearer the road) and even (and I quite liked this rustic touch), cockerels that are determined to get everyone up at 3.30am! But you're in Mexico, right? Just go with the flow ... :-)…
