My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights and really felt at home. We were welcomed by chelo and her son with open arms. They are the most amazing family and genuinely care about you and the hostel. We ate THE BEST Mexican breakfast ever! It changed each day and we couldn't wait to see what was next. The... More

I have been travelling through Mexico and Central America for the past 4 months and was at Posada Los mapaches in Feb. 2013. Out of all the hostels I´ve visited it still takes the number 1 spot! The family running this hostel are incredibly friendly and make you feel at home right away. One day, they took is on a... More

we stood outside the locked doors and knocked, thinking this looks empty... But then Jouaquin opens the door with a big smile on his face. He runs this place together with his mom. Jouaquin and Mama Chelo is so friendly and kind. We loved them, and we was so sad when we had to leave. When you enter the doors... More

This beautiful posada is located only a short bike ride away from the ruins, the beach and the town centre of Tulum. Both Chelo and her son Joakim, who run the hostel, are absolutely sweet and wonderful people, who are willing to help and give advice any time. It is a clean place, every guest gets a free bike for... More

This hostel is probably the best managed I have ever stayed in. Mamma Celio runs a very tight ship whilst still managing to create a comfortable and safe environment. The complimentary bikes and substantial breakfast are genius on her part. Whilst the rustic cabanas are located by teh side of the highway just outside of town the traffic noise becomes... More

Each morning at 8am, while sitting down for your morning fruit (which precedes the "main course"), you'll be pleasantly surprised to be visited by a group of about 20-30 coatis (small raccoon-like animals) who come for some fruit and tortillas. Very cute, not too invasive and not scary either...fear not!! Besides this, the hostel is run by some awesome, friendly... More

It may not look it on the map, but in our opinion, los mapuches has one of the best locations in tulum. It is 700 yards from the entrance to the ruins(about as close as possible) and a further 200 from probably the best beach on that whole stretch, it is also a very short trip into town where there... I couldn't recommend this place more. Starting the day with friendly conversation and the best brekkie a mum could make. A little out of town, but makes for a nice bike ride to wherever you need to go. PS. the roadside taco joint next door is INCREDIBLE.

I have spent 6 weeks backpacking through South America and 5 through Central America and I can say that this was the best hostel I stayed at. The owner, Chelo, is absolutely brilliant and makes you feel at home straight away (she does douse your belongings with bug spray upon arrival, but I found this reassuring). Her two course breakfasts... More
