If you are anywhere within say twenty miles of this establishment then I urge you to visit. This is a brilliant example of an old fashioned pub with wooden floors, great beers (local tipple £2.80 a pint) and ciders and good value food....the spicy sausage casserole is really tasty. Two blazing fires add to the atmosphere and enjoyment. Congratulations to those who... More

It’s a really nice place. A couple of open fires, wood and coal to keep the place warm, and the place is candle lit in the evening / nights. Atmosphere is spot on. They have great a food and real ale / ciders selection section. The bear Tapas is also fun if you can’t decide and you get a little... More

We stayed on a grey winters day, but with great service and roaring fires we felt welcome and comfy. The food was excellent and well priced, with a fantatic selection of real ales (including... More

Dined here on a busy Saturday night (we did have a table booked) and found it to be a very frustrating experience. We decided that we would skip starters and have dessert instead, so we ordered our meals. After almost an hour and a half we asked the waitress what was happening with our meals and her reply was that... More

It was by sheer chance that the night we spent at the Old Poets was during their beer festival! There were 50 odd beers and ciders to choose from and an open mic night on this Thursday stop over. This is a traditional pub with a great atmosphere and good food. They brew their own beer too! The room was... More

A lovely welcoming pub with roaring fires, its own beer and great pub food, including speciality sausages and a super hot chilli. We have eaten here three times in recent years and never been disappointed. The rooms were comfortable and breakfast of good quality.

Very enjoyable two-night break at this traditional vilage pub. Comfortable, clean, well-furnished rooms, coupled with friendly, helpful staff, good food and an excellent range of own-brewed and guest real ales, make this an ideal stopping off point for a relaxing break. Handy base for exploring other Derbyshire attractions such as Matlock, Chatsworth House etc. An added bonus is the three... More

I read about the Old Poets' Corner in a Camra book who recommended it because of its great food and wide cider selection. I can vouch for both of the above points. I had a stew and it was terrific. They also offered a wide range of ales and ciders which could simply put into shame any West Country pub!... More
